NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
« on: September 21, 2012, 09:45:07 PM »
FOR THE GUYS IN WA

It appears that the CR8EHIX-9 Iridium plugs fit both the 1100 and the 1300.

There's a place on ebay in the UK that is selling them for $12.30 US (each), postage looks like $3.22 US.    TOTAL approx $15.50 each (could be less with bulk order).

Anyone want to come in with this order with Me & Malcolm?

Let me know by Monday when I'll be placing the order.

http://www.ngk.de/en/product-finder/produktfinder/MOTORRAEDER/ZUENDKERZEN/HONDA/ST%2B1300%2BPAN%2BEUROPEAN/CR8EH-9/6151/

This should explain things.
Just copy and paste into your browzer.

Although I am wondering why these are suitable to 2004 when the other plugs, which are a CR7EH-9 are all years. The earlier plugs being colder. EG an 8 instead of a 7. Do any mechanical peepholes know what difference there would be, if any. In my thinking cooler would be best for harder acceleration.
Please explain.

Apart from that effect, are they any better?

maybe the point 1 and 2 down towards the bottom of the post?
I have them in mine after sourcing from the US as four of them here were going to cost around $90  :well

are they any good?  not sure, I have gone on reports that I have been able to find on the net.  My original ones needed replacing and these were priced right,  there have been no adverse affects on the bike so all is good  :thumbs

The main thing with Iridium plugs is you won't need to replace them for 100,000kms.

From what I have read about ST13s using the same Iridium plug as the ST11, there have been no issues with the plugs. The Iridiums seem to be able to cover the heat ranges of the two standard plugs, and this was for riders who were able to ride at 130kph plus in summer in the US.  The heat rating is more to do with running the spark plug at the right temperature for keeping the plug clean.  If we were able to ride flat out for hours on end then a cooler rated plug might be advisable, but it may just foul up when you ride at normal speeds.  A hotter or colder plug does not affect the running temperature of the motor.

I had my first set of Iridiums in for 70,000kms, and only replaced them because one plug fouled one day due to the bike running too rich on that cylinder over a long period of time (I have since replaced the offending carb parts) The standard plugs can last ages longer than recommended.

Years ago in my Suzuki GS1000 after I had it dynoed to check that some K&N filter pods were tuned properly, they put in one stage colder plugs.  In only a few 100kms the plugs were fouling up so back in went the standard plugs.

One of my previous bikes was a Vulcan and a hotter plug has to be used in the rear cylinder to stop it fouling due to lack of cooling, water temp is warmer by the time it circulates around the rear of the engine, likewise on my XV750. I can't see this being aproblem on the ST's as the cylinders are all next to each other.

OK....... JUST ORDERED 5 SETS OF PLUGS

Works out at just under $50 each ($49.87 from memory), that's per person (4 plugs each) not per plug.

Delivery time estimate is the first week of October.

NO MONEY, NO PLUGS.............. Please, if you've ordered them don't back-out and leave me out of pocket. I'm not saying this because I don't trust you, it's just that I was stung once before (NOT ON THIS SITE OR WITH ANY OF IT'S MEMBERS) and left with something I didn't need or want and it saves a lot of embarrassment and/or ill feeling.

I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Hey Dave - I'll jump in for a set if you need to unload any.

It's plug time for me too and $50 ain't far off what the standards cost.

PM me if this can happen. No probs if it can't.

Cheers, Diesel
