Damn near replaced the BMW today with another Honda.
« on: November 10, 2011, 12:02:33 PM »
Yes it's true. In fact I must delete www.bikesales.com.au from my computer before it sends me broke.

I spotted a 2007 model Goldwing Luxury for sale the other day with just 29,000k's on the clock, brand new tyres, and fitted out with all sorts of shiney farkles for just $22,500. It seemed cheap by comparison to others advertised, so after a few days of trying to contact the owner, he finally returned my call yesterday.

I went and saw the bike this morning with every intention of buying it if it was all it was advertised to be, then put my BMW on the market. But alas it was not to be. The bike was good mechanically, but sadly, there were also lots of marks and stone chips, which I thought was odd for a bike with only 29,000k's on the clock? Makes you wonder how bikes like this one get so many marks on them when others can have 100,000k's up and still look like new?

Cheers

I should have asked the obvious question of why get rid of the LT and get the Wing?  In comparison I think that the LT is a bit more sporty, but feels a bit busier than the wing.

Maybe the owner had to regularly travel on gravel roads, getting stone chips etc?  Sounds like you are easily tempted Barry  :)

Since this website won't allow me to reply with a quote I'll kind of answer everyone responses here.

John (saaz) asked "why change from the beemer?" Well essentially there's no reason to change from the BMW other than I like to change bikes from time to time. If I see something that looks a bargain and it interests me as a bike I'd like to own for a while, I'll check it out and buy it if its good value in my mind.

Most of the bikes I've brought have in my view offered "better than average" value. My logic is that if I buy bikes that way, I can enjoy the bike for a year or two, put another 10,000k's on it, and generally sell it for somewhere close to what I originally paid for it. Of course, I loose out on the cost of rego and insurance and basic running costs like replacing tyres etc every year, but I'm going to have those costs whether I change bikes regulalrly, or hold onto the same bike for years.

To answer Kev's question about the wing for sale in Tassy. To me, that bike only offers average value given you can buy a brand new wing these days for about $32,000, and have it come with a full warranty.

In reply to John M's suggestion that the stone chips might have been from riding on dirt roads. I agree with you John! But there were too many stone chips this early in the bikes life. Even the leading edges of the panniers were stone chipped. It made me feel suspicious about the bikes milage?

I guess if your into touring bikes, the Goldwing has always been the "ultimate" tourer there is.

I'd be happy to own. So one of these days when the right bike comes along, hopefully I get my chance  :)

Cheers

Nice Kev.................if the Lotto fairy ever came good for me there are just so many bikes that I'd like to own and ride for a period of time.

One of my sons (David who is 28) who lives at Eagleby (between Brisbane and the Gold Coast) has just brought a new black Honda CBR 650, He's sent me pics of the bike and it looks the "ducks nuts"............I'd love to have a ride on it. Would also love to ride an MV Augusta, Ducati, Honda Super Blackbird, of course a new Gold Wing.........and the list go's on.....

Might just take another Lotto ticket for this Saturday night.......................you never know hey!!

I'd go the black one Kev!!

Hey Couch

Horizon had a new (2010) black one in the shop the other week...was being detailed for its owner, apparently they (Horizon) did a good deal.....probably 'cause of the 2012 models coming soon....

Cheers
