Taxi Drivers
« on: November 16, 2012, 10:37:53 AM »
When  I was in India recently, I saw a sign that  said,

'English  speaking taxi driver'.

I  thought to myself,

“"What a brilliant  idea. Why don't we have  them in Australia,

AND, you could understand what they were saying.

I actually had "Mary" from Telstra on the line last night, and she had great English, best I've heard from the sub-continent.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

A couple of weeks ago my father-in-law answered the phone to 'Richard' from Telstra, now my Father-in-Law is 87, was born and raised in Ukraine, has been in Aus for about 60 years but his English isn't the best by any stretch of the imagination and he is starting to suffer from Alzheimer's, so you can imagine the state of the conversation that went on between them! Apart from the fact that my Father-in-Law really had no idea of who was on the phone or why, and 'Richard's' English was abysmal and very strongly accented, they had a 90 second chat before both of the realised that it was a lost cause and hung up, which left us peeing ourselves with laughter.  :crackup :crackup :crackup :rofl :rofl :rofl
