ST1100 wind deflectors on an ST1300
« on: November 18, 2012, 03:45:18 AM »
If anyone wants to save some hard earned cash but still doesn't want cold hands here's an idea. I have just completed fitting a set of ST1100 mirror wind deflectors to my ST1300.

They do the job at a fraction of the proper ones.

On the old 1300 I was convinced the underparts of the correct mirror deflectors didn't do much for my hands but they did make a lot of wind noise. These 1100 ones do seem to save my hands a fair bit and I think they look just as good.

The bolt down tabs line up with the very edge of the mirror housing and the outboard tip fits just where it sits best on the housing. The tip of the deflector will be a few mm away from the back edge of the housing. I removed the bits of foam that came fitted then set about flattening out the bottom profile which to fit the 1100 is quite marked. The bottom of the deflectors needs to be carefully ground away so the the corner is considerably larger radius (and compound) and so that the part that sits against the nose cowl fits that profile too.

With patience and a steady hand it's really no problem.

I decided it was worth punching holes in the housing to use the bolts supplied as well as putting adhesive tapes around all the edges that would be fixed to the mirror housings.

Regards to all.
