Hiyas, for Christmas I bought my wife a GPS to give to me

. Nothing like practical pressies.

It's the
Garmin Zumo 220.... not exactly cheap ($389 incl. postage) as some of those you can get for the car, but it's waterproof, has a reasonably bright screen (still has some problems in direct light), comes with all of the RAM mounts needed, and has Bluetooth. I believe this is now a discontinued model, but some are still in stock around the place. I opted for this for 2 reasons - the motorcycle install, and it's price. While not cheap - it's a lot cheaper than other motorcycle-specific GPSs.
I spent time yeasterday taking Little Miss STealthy's clothes off to wire up the GPS and install a new power socket at the front of the bike (sorry no piccies - I'm doing some servicing in 2 weeks so I'll take them and post then). I'd been holding off on the installation of a power socket at the front of the bike (for recharging the Sena SMH10 headset) until the GPS arrived.
This was a good learning for me - I'd never taken any panel off other than those under the seat and the lower left for a clutch fluid drain. Front left side off (get the
panel/screw template from the US site), tank up, redo some fuse-box wiring, various trips to Malz to get some cables, etc.... and she's done: GPS and socket power from the fuse-box at the back of the bike under the tank; GPS mounted infront of clutch reservoir; power socket (not merit) inside left glove box (only to supply USB power - cord "exit" from under lid this w/e).
First use of the GPS was today on the way to work :( and it worked well. Sexy female Aussie voice worked a treat with my Sena (interrupting music from the iphone). Tonight I start playing with routes and loading my 2013 National Rally route plan.
Cheers, Rob
