A slightly more +ve view on OzzTrailer (the place is dominated by Grey Nomads isn't it?)

"I am Australian" - IMHO should be our national anthem - clearly better than AAF (An Awkward Farce)

From:

Here we have the lyrics to an iconic Aussie song called “I am Australian” (also known as  We are Australian) which was written in 1987 by Bruce Woodley of The Seekers and Dobe Newton of The Bushwackers. It’s a very patriotic song – commonly taught in primary schools and was even one of the songs under consideration to replace our National Anthem!

I came from the dream-time, from the dusty red soil plains
I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame.
I stood upon the rocky shore, I watched the tall ships come.
For forty thousand years I’ve been the first Australian.

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian

I came upon the prison ship, bowed down by iron chains.
I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains.
I’m a settler, I’m a farmer’s wife on a dry and barren run
A convict then a free man, I became Australian.

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian

I’m the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road
I’m a child of the depression, I saw the good times come
I’m a bushy, I’m a battler, I am Australian

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian

I’m a teller of stories, I’m a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira, I paint the ghostly gums
I am Clancy on his horse, I’m Ned Kelly on the run
I’m the one who waltzed Matilda, I am Australian

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian

Here's a nice version with video sung by the Seekers:

While we have innumerable drongo pollies making a mess of our country, mine and Terese's parents had to flee their native countries to stay alive and our kids now have an idyllic life with only a small chance of being murdered by a maniac. Not a major chance if you live in Syria.
And free speech like Pete's whether he is right or not - yeah I know he's only having a laugh.

And yet, some who flee these sort of countries (supposedly) to take part in these freedoms, want now to institute the same regimes that they fled. :|||| :||||

Apparently, a refugee Taxi driver in Sydney had an interesting idea about these people. Send them back to where they came from he said. But they are second gen Aussies said the media person, dont matter he said, they want those laws/rules/way of life then send em back....

Maybe send the do gooder PC bunch as well.

Yes, Brock - good points. However if it was not for some do-gooders after the war my parents would not have been selected to come here. Dad was a mechanic, builder and/or male nurse and mum a nurse and they were welcomed with open arms. Met in Orange NSW and left there 10 years later because it as cold as Europe in winter.

They never, ever complained about the political system here. Thought the Westminster system vastly better than anything they knew in Europe. Very impressed that "anyone" could be a pollie here provided you knew the right people, had money, were long-time union or party members, were a sport legend who could talk to a mic, or anybody who caused headlines in the news - and the more left or right wing the better.

:o    :crazy We are a crazy, mixed up, potpourri of a people that given where we are in the world are becoming more Asian as we speak. I think even if the French had settled this place before the British it would be just the same except we would be froggysised and you would be Brocante (look it up), I would be Gregoire , then there would be LeStreak, DeSielle, Saasy, AtoYacht, Rubens, PepeLePew (StinkyPete) ...

Perhaps I should have said "Do Gooders", these are the ones that want any mention of Xmas, or display there of in a public place, and also want to remove the Oz flag from flying in schools and tone down/remove Anzac  Day ceremonies. All for fear of offending new arrivals. I served in the Airforce fore 22Yrs, and these "People" offend me.

The folk who assisted people like your parents are to be admired and supported. I know a few families from Iraq/Iran who left because of the way of life there, and the last thing they want is the same thing here. I admire people who have left their old country, and have worked hard to become Aussies.
