Nulon Long Life Coolant
« on: February 14, 2013, 05:30:54 PM »
I need new coolant for my 1100 for when the timing belt/coolings system fix is completed. On my last trip to Adelaide I called into A Honda dealer for a price and it came to $11 a litre.

In the last week or two I did some looking online and found the red Shell OAT coolant was ok and I also found some red Nulon coolant at Supacheap

At the time I wasn't sure if this stuff was suitable so I rang the local REPCO store and they said they had something suitable as well. A 1 litre concentrate @ $15 so I would need two of them.

This morning we went to Port Pirie and stopped off at Supacheap first and checked out the Nulon red coolant.  Label says it's Silicate, Borate, Phosphate, Nitrate and Amine free so it's about the same as the Shell stuff.

5 litres of concentrate was a bit much so I bought the smaller 2.5 bottle for $28.65.

I have used the Nulon red, and the Repco equivalent, in the ST and 2 cars that also use the same formula. Silicate, Borate, Phosphate, Nitrate and Amine free is all you are after.  The Japanese specification having silicate free is particularly important, as silicates tend to chew out the water pump seals.

Thanks gentlemen, looks like I need to change from Nulon green (low silicate base) to Nulon red before Middleton.

Cheers
