ST1300 down on Mt Mee

Hi everyone, something has been concerning me since I came across a guy and his partner down on the Mt Mee road on the way to Woodford two weelends ago.
I stopped to offer assistance but the non responsive attitude of the rider made me think I was imposing?
I know that sounds very strange.....
Once I had acertained that they were okay, I gave them their space.
He was just about to pour water on his parteners skinless palm (no gloves ) ooohhh!
I stopped at the Woodford ambulance depot to at least advise them that a person might require some assistance, but could not find a soul, so I let things be.
Why I feel bad is because I had just completed my senior first aid..
I should have stayed, considering that shock might have not yet set in.
DOH!
Anyway, If the rider or pillion involved in that event should read this, I would really like to know that you are okay.

They were heading toward Woodford by the look of things and maybe caught a zig instead of a zag

Oh yeah! a nice piece of road, however I try to not ride out there on sunday's for several reasons. Too many cops, too many riders.
And too many harleys uh oh!
Nice chatting now I gotta pull out the clutch on the banana....well it's really a beuatiful ST2 Ducati... just happens to be the best colour :>)

hi Malcolm, my thoughts too. Thing was, I had only just completed my senior first aide upgrade. Should have been a little more assertive maybe. Anyway I'm upgrading my first aid kit from nothing to at least saline, clinge rap, and a bandage or two.
Wear gloves people.. I still shudder when I "see" that poor lady's hand. Not life threatening but just plain unnessacary.

You know you've raised an interesting point in regards to carry first aid kits. I used to carry one all the time in my pannier, but it was borrowed a while back and has never been replaced. It should be something we all carry for our own sakes, and  for the sake of anyone else we may potentially be able to help.

Mate its probs not that hes didnt appreciate your help, he was probs overcome with the fact his missues hands were fkd, his bike was fkd and he dropped the bike. He probs didnt want anyone to be around as he was embarrassed. I know when i dropped my CBR i jumped straight back up and the first thing i thought was Shit i hope noone saw me!.  unfortunatley i dropped her outside a house that had a front deck and a BBQ going  needless to say the lastthinig i wanted was help. I just wanted to get the fk outta there and crawl under a rock. Dont beat yoruself up about it. After all its not like its a lovely blue one. Just a crappy white one

I can relate to that. Many years ago, way back when I had a ratty Honda 250N I went to leave a roadhouse and found  myself on the ground. I never saw the sand/gravel patch and the rear end just slid out from under me. It could have been the front wheel, I don't know, it happened that quickly. I wasn't hurt or anything, just embarrased as it happened in front of a bus full of people. Some guy came rushing over to see if I was ok. I was, so I just got on the bike and left the scene. Checked the bike just up the road, needed new handle bar. Not to mention pride and ego severly damaged at the time.

so far the  has stayed upright during her performance and has only ever laid down when at rest.

I carry a First Aid kit on long trips, but never have it on board for the day rides. Stupid really, it can happen anytime and probably more likely on a day ride when you're likely to be hooning a little more. I'll put it back in the pannier tomorrow.

I think First Aid kits are just a waste of space. I carry pressure bandages cause their the things that either slow down or stop the bleeding.

Sorry Terry but I have to disagree!

I carry a first aid kit with me whenever I ride. My kit was supplied to me by Tas Ambulance and is a fairly comprehensive kit. Your pressure bandages are certainly a good start but there are injuries that can be sustained in a fall where pressure bandages are useless. You wouldn't put pressure bandages over a severe gravel rash as they would stick to the wound and you can't flush grit from someones eye with a bandage. Shears can also be handy in cutting clothing away from a wound where it's too painful to try to remove the item. Burns, insect stings, etc etc...............the list goes on! Rubber gloves. tweezers, safety pins, band aids, are just a few items that can be useful.
As a Volunteer Ambo I'm trained to assist in any situation and I carry the equipment to enable me to do so. The kit is soft fabric and only takes up a quarter of the space in one pannier and is quite light in weight. I've only needed to use it on one occasion but it's always there if needed.

I know the guys I ride with are happy to have me bring it along!

As an ex- Ambo myself I agree with you 100% Couch.

Pressure bandages have their place in a Kit but so do numerous other items as you've mentioned.
