Even Bourke qualifies for those conditions, except the walk to the beach.
When you walk out of a building into the sun it's like slamming into a sheet of corrugated iron.
Bourke (and the rest of central Oz) is different, however, in that the heat is dry and your sweat will evaporate letting it cool you a bit. In FNQ and Darwin the humidity is so high the sweat just sits on your skin with no cooling effect.
Some folk here may not have seen them, but evaporative coolers work beautifully in the the dry heat. The principle is they are a box on the roof with sheets of straw in the sides. Water trickles down over the straw and air is drawn in through the straw, evaporating the water and thus dropping the air temperature by at least ten degrees. In doing so it also humidifies the air so the air in the building feels fresh.
