A funny thing happened on the way...
« on: May 19, 2013, 09:16:24 PM »
Well.. not a funny thing.. this isn't meant to be a joke.

I have been looking around for another car for my oldest daughter. She doesn't want much: Smaller car, auto, preferably, lowish k's, less than $5000.. preferably less.. oh.. and it must not be white. She is at Uni on the Sunshine Coast and I'm in Maryborough.. about 200k's apart. She's a uni student so is either studying, working or sleeping.. as they do. I have looked at just about every major car sales website, joind 5 farcebook sales sites, etc.. I've seen some good buys, but they don't last long.

Anyway, I decided to check out the classifieds in the local paper.. but being a cheapskate (and out of work since last November) I looked online so I didn't have to spend $1.20 on the paper!  :thumbs This was about Tuesday last week, and I noticed an ad saying that Talent Scouts were going to be at Hervey Bay and to book online if you want to have a go. Well, I do enjoy singing at karaoke every weekend and CAN sing, but not to a level where I would be game to offer myself for that... but just being on the long side of 50 and out of work I thought to myself 'why not?' I booked online and very soon an email was returned to me saying that I had been booked in for that Friday at 1:45pm. I was also send a number of forms to print out as well as about 10 scripts to take along. My printer manage to just print out all the require documents before it ran out of ink and refused to play anymore.

To keep a long story short: I attended the audition, filled out a heap more forms and eventually got in front of the camera for the audition (apparently I was supposed to pick one of those scripts and learn it off by heart, but nobody told me that). Although, the night before I did read a few of them in front of my computers camera and recorded it and was happy with the result... in front of a camera at an audition is a completely different kettle of fish! I read the script out and was promptly told that it wasn't very good. He had hope for me and stated that there aren't enough men in my age group that will attempt this type of thing, so he gave me another (bigger) script to take home and learn.

That night was a waste of time trying to learn it, next morning I had a few hours at home and an hour at the audition site to try and learn.. but again.. that camera...

Well, I did manage to get thru half of it, and then read the rest off the page.. and was told that it was 4000 times better than the day before.

So, I am now signed up with n agency in the hope of scoring some 'extra', advert, or short film parts! .. and I don't have to sing!  :nahnah

Still haven't found the 'right' car for my daughter.. she has just knocked back a Subaru Impreza, auto with 115000k's offered for the $5000 (not $7000 that he really wanted).. because it was white!.. and a Hyundai FX Coupe with really low k's, pristine condition for $5000 negotiable.. because she's not sure she likes it! Sheeesh!

Well, it wasn't a scam. I have just been down to Murwillumbah in NSW for a part as an extra in the tv series 'Camp'.

Sounds a bit gay to me!

Not that there is anything wrong with that, of course!    :whistle
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Have a mate here at work who got into extras work years ago, he is in nice family orientated shows like; Housos, Fat Pizza, Swift & Shift on SBS, he loves it......also done some adds and a home and away episode where he did actually sing......he's obviously not very good at it though as he still has his day job  :eek

LOL.. not that sort of 'Camp' Biggles. Happily married, and consider it a paid hobby. A lot of guys won't do this type of thing and that makes it easier for me. When you sign up you can opt out of certain scenarios, like no smoking, no nudity, etc. There is one scenario that I wouldn't do tho, but didn't need to worry about that just cause the series is called 'camp'.

Good fun and met some great people. Very friendly people too, which surprised me a bit.
Life is what you make it, but don't expect to become famous, and not really interested in that anyway.

I used to be a pretty shy kid, Leo. Still basically am, but have learned to work thru it.
Karaoke is pretty good because you soon learn that people realise it's just for fun, and they openly give support if you do well.
Aussies are pretty good like that nowadays! :D
