Yep - If a single rego could be spread across a few bikes we would have a few different rides in the shed  :thumb

After my trip to Townsville the end of last year (12,000 in 20 days) I found that the faithful ST1300 :-++ wasn't doing it for me anymore in regards to Comfort and Luxury (probably my advancing years) :well  :well
On return to Perth I decided I was going to buy a new Goldwing with Lotto's permission. :whistle I tried to arrange a Demo test ride, no Demo available, one in next week I was told. Rang 3 times over the next 3 weeks, still no Demo available. :|||| :|||| :||||
:think1 Loto and I Decided to take a local secondhand GL1800 with very low Klm for a ride, we sat on it, didn't even bother to take it for a ride. I found the riding position too cramped with no room to move around, with my feet on the fitted highway pegs I felt like I was doing the splits. :fp
Loto said the pillion seat was comfortable but because of my size there was not enough room for her.  :-X
What other options were there for me, Triumph and BMW were out because of Sport Touring riding positions (same as ST1300). I found on the ST that I spent most of my time riding with my feet on the Highway Blades so this suggested to me that a more cruiser oriented tourer might be what I was looking for. After a lot of research and  I was left with a shortlist of 3 brands, HD, Kawasaki and Victory.
HD I don't really like because of their Top Pricing for outdated technology, Kawasaki has small tank and limited range, so I took Loto to Victory for a Demo Ride. We road a New Cross Country Tour, and then a Vision, as soon as I sat on the XCT I felt comfortable :clap Loto had plenty of room on the rear so off we went, it handled great and I felt right at home, Lotto was impressed with the seat and topbox backrest. :thumbsup
Next we took the Vision out, same thing, very comfortable and great handling. We decided to buy the XCT because it has much more space in the paniers and the topbox is easily removeable to turn it into a nice around town bagger.
I kept my ST1300 until I was sure the XCT would fulfill my expectations, the ST is now sold and the more Klms I put on the XCT the better it gets. :runyay :runyay
Sorry for such a long post but the reason I wrote was that Goldwings aren't as comfortable for the taller or larger person and there are other options, click on the link for a comparo of some touring bikes  :whistle

Nice post Mitch.... Long or short post your opinion is always of value. A mate of mine is over the moon with his XCT (is an anagram of XTC ) and agrees with Victory's sale promise .. Ride it you'll buy it.. I'm of average height I suppose and I would like to have the freedom of a trumpy adventure bike in the garage beside the schWING and while I'm daydreaming ...I'd have my ST 1300 in there too.

Good to read a rider's informed opinion about a bike I would never have considered.  Having watched the Victory vs BMW Police slalom I'm convinced they aren't a barge.
I'll let them mature a bit- I've got a year or two left on the ST13.  As  ST2UP said, where's the 'Wing's electric screen that we enjoy?  I adjust mine several times on a long ride, depending on the temperature, visibility and road type (twisty or slab).

But I don't like the Yellow version of the 'Wing.   :o

But I don't like the Yellow version of the 'Wing.   :o

Must be about 6 years ago now when we met a guy who owned either a Yammy or a Kwaka tourer in the carpark at The Brick Works markets in Adelaide. We'd just gotten off the 1100 and he pulled in beside us.

Told us he was going to trade is bike for one of those yellow 'wings. Reasoning:- If the car drivers can't see that colour then there's no hope.

Those yellow wings do make a statement  :eek , but they don't hold there resale value.....always $5,000 cheaper than other of same age and condition.

Sell the camper and you will have a cheap Gold Goldwing

That is a nice Bike Gavo, I have always liked the yellow.
But I think this is even better value except for all the bling on it

There's a dealer here trying to shift "Wing" F6B by pricing them as "negotiable".

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/midland/motorcycles/all-new-honda-f6b-goldwing-test-rides-available/1015793695

Might be having a hard time finding buyers.

I had a little look at the Victory Vision info.  As well as cruise control, it had an electric windscreen.   :thumbs

Honda had better get a move on.  Surely they see what the other manufacturers are doing!

Thanks for the heads up ORSM. I was hoping the Wing could get 450 for the tank, as this gives you the range to plan rides ANYWHERE in Australia for fuel stops etc. Even more pleased to hear that it was fully loaded to do this as well.          :thumb

I'm confident if I were to have used 98octane high 400's could have been achieved.

This question has been begged many times.  And been challenged nearly as many times.
In a nutshell, octane relates to anti-knock characteristics, not chemical energy, despite what Shell might be "vrooming" on about.
To prove you can do better, you would have to replicate the trip down to speed, load, temperature and winds.

The F6B! Most of you who have posted hate it. I love it!

Here is a MCNews review of it....

I like most things about the GW except for the absence of an electric adjustable windscreen.  I just don't like looking through the windshield when riding.  I wont pass judgement until I've had a ride of one but I enjoy plenty of ventilation in hot weather and I could imagine the GW cockpit getting a bit too stuffy with all that plastic around me.  I wouldn't buy one new either......with the drop in new GW prices it's going to drive down the used market, should be some good buying there in future.

Cheers,

Tony

I agree 100% about the need for an electric screen.  The screens are manually adjustable.
There are very effective acrylic air deflectors that mount on the sides.  There are also warm air vents that direct engine heat onto your legs in the Winter months.
