computer down

about 2 weeks ago i think i got a virus or something. kept on getting adds. anyway after some time the screen kept on shutting down. ive run avg and register cleaners to no avail. now windows starts up but no screen at all. its a laptop running xp but cannot format as i cannot get to safe mode or see anything

Hi Roy sounds like it needs a full re install of windows, do you have all the disks and everything that came with it?

I am happy to do an overhaul on it for you if you want to bring it up the hill to me

Pop Up advertisements can be a real pest and can be missed by your Virus Software.   There is a freely downloadable program called "Malwarebyte" which will clean out the pop up advertisements.   I use the free "MS Security Essentials" as my virus software and find it most satisfactory.

due to the fact the monitor is not working i was able to reformat but seems either video card or monitor is cactus. can just see screen with sun on monitor but unable to finish settup  :||||  :||||  :||||
