A trip to the bike shop

So I went out yesterday to get my wife a new helmet, I had broken the visor on her old one and thought it was time to replace the whole thing anyway.
We went to Team Moto Springwood and while we were there we had a test ride of a ’04 ST1300

Anyway to cut a long story short after a lot of wheeling and dealing I no longer have the ST1100  or my car (wife still has hers) and I am now the proud owner of a shiney blue ST1300      

I have a Givi top box on order and the helmet for the wife should be arriving in a couple of days (I did remember to get it  )

I picked up the bike for $3200 on road after the trade-ins

I’ll put up some better pictures later when I get a chance (didn’t have much of a chance last night when I took possession of the bike at 19:00 and I’m at work today)

If any of you ST1300 guys have any awesome tips or tricks that you think I should be aware of please let me know

Anything you need to know - ask away - maybe start with some handlebar risers and a comfy seat!

ALSO....   We are planning a few 'workshop' days this year so that ST pilots who would like to perform some of their own servicing and maintenance, can do so whilst surrounded by more experienced people lending a hand and giving helpful advice. 

Such things as replacing oil/oil filter, air & fuel filter, final drive shaft lube and gear oil replacement, fitting power outlets and heated grips, changing brake pads etc etc. Bound to be plenty of great tips to pick up, and all done with a barbie lunch or morning tea to boot.   Stay tuned in the new year.

Thanks guys, I am very happy with it so far. Only 1 problem I have found... Its very hard to stop when I get to work, I just want to keep riding

Diesel, the workshop days sound like an awesome idea, I'll defiantly have to join up for them 
And yeah I think risers and a seat will be the next purchase, do you have any suggestions on brands or places to get them from?

looks really good deal. its unfortunate but the old 1990 models needs a heap of consant fiddling and fooling around with (i have heaps of experiance there). you will be more than happy with the new helmet

That is one of the reasons I was looking at the newer bike, the 1100 will just become more and more of an issue for me to keep running (I'm not much of a mechanic) 
I look forward to showing off the finished product when I have the top box (with break light) installed
Carrol will enjoy the bike more too when there is a backrest & something stopping her from sliding off the back

It is all being done through the store, it is one of the optional extras on the Givi top box, (Givi brake light kit) cost me about $100.
I thought, well if I’m spending a fortune on the box I may as well have the added safety of an extra brake light.

Looking at the shop photos, you need to get some Bartenders Friend to polish the mufflers. This will get rid of the yellowing.
Maintenance is easy.
You will enjoy the 1300.

Gavo, I had a look at the Honda top box with the brake light (spoiler) it looked good... then they told me the price and I almost died     
That's when I looked at the Givi setup and said I'll take one of those!!! 

And thank you for the tip on polish for the mufflers Malcom6112  it'll come in handy :)

Now I just have to remember not to speed (too much)

Nice one Dave. Same as mine, Givi top box and all. I was concerned about The "Givi" being Italian but then it doesn't have electrics so I thought it would be OK. Sorry Ducati Dave. Lol. See how you like the standard seat before you start messing with it Dave. First thing I'd do is bend those locating tabs forward to lower the rear of the riders seat. Levels it up a bit so your not sliding into the tank so much. Other than that I love it just they way it is.

Hey Shiney, well done! welcome to the 1300 club , but just settle down!! don`t do anything to it yet just ride it!!. You might not like bar risers ect ( i quite like the bars as they are!) , for the seat ? maybe! i can cope with mine but it needs recovering!. A bit more midrange grunt don`t you think than the 1100`s ??, anyway nice to meet up with all you guys and gals last Sunday, looking forward to meet up again in the new year !, thanks Diesel for your efforts on the bbq even though i didn`t sample any ( to busy talking bike stuff with st 11 Bob ) next time!. Had a safe but boring ride home ( i need some corners please ) 1 hour & 50 mins to Currumbin. Ok then merry xmas to all & stay safe!!.......Pete :slvr

Nice one Dave.....................now for your first tip............you just have to consider painting it white, that's if you want to keep up with the rest of us that is!! 

PS: You might like to consider knee wind deflectors if you don't already have them............they certainly help keep the engine heat off the legs in summer and also keep the cold wind off your legs in winter. I can vouch for them!

I like the blue so I think I'll pass on the "paint it white" tip, but the knee wind deflectors sounds interesting, are they from Honda?
