Just a heads up on a current deal through Johnny Appleseed for a GPS/ UHF hybrid.  Seems a reasonable deal for a pair.  Not my cup of tea for a GPS but may suit some.

Very impressive electronics.  Seems better suited for the bush walker where a hand-held "walkie talkie" could be useful.  Some mobile phone-type features.
Interesting that it incorporates a barometric altimeter.  I wonder if it cross-references against the GPS one.
Sale price compared with RRP is extraordinary.

Yeah Bill, they have some good deals on that site, especially on the Zumo etc, from time to time.

They will price-match at the local store, too.  I got my SPOT at the GPSOz internet price by taking it to my local JA store.

Yep, Internet is forcing local business to compete. Good in some ways but a lot just cannot and sink.

As GPS go they are like mentioned best as a walkaround/top type thing.
As a UHF they arent too bad (even tell you when mates are close/where they are)
BUT very finnicky as to whetehr they work when connected to a "headset"
one customer had 3 units, 1 of which would recognize something plugged in as a headset  :||||. ALL 3 tried with the exact same equipment :fp

Don't get one, it's not worth the hassles.

They would be good for bush walking with your mates or family, but of limited use for a bike. You need a GPS, that you can at least see clearly, if not hear.

My experience with the UHF is that a hand held doesnt work so well, the in car sets are much better. I was able to talk to Ray over a distance of about 10 Ks, even though he is having some problems.

The Rhino is a bit of a compromise of both GPS and UHF..

And we dont compromise, do we......
