Teela and I Went to Blacksoil today to get Earmoulds made, as everyone we speak to about them raves about them!

$60 Each, and Nicky Steel who is the Lady that Earmould Australia (Aarron & Julie) recommended to us to get them made did a fantastic job!

She has also Agreed to come along to our RTE in Toowoomba in November (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=3959.0) to talk to us about earmould and make pairs up for anyone looking for them!

Here i am getting all molded up!

We gave our Earmoulds with the air tube speakers fitted their first real test today on a ride.....VERY impressed, completely solved the lack of volume we were experiencing trying to drive the helmet speakers over the wind noise.....all the voices in our heads (GPS, intercom, UHF, iPod, phone) run at about 50% volume setting.

Big  :thumbsup  :thumbsup from us.

recently purchased a set as well, they are great.  :thumbs
just for interest I paid $79 for mine they were made as two colours and different colours for each ear ie, right ear bright green and black, the left ear bright orange and black.  I am assuming that yours were one colour?

We had the choice of same colors with the right earplug marked or different colors, Teela and I went with the same color option.

Price was the same for either way, I think we got a discount as we where discussing a OzSTOC discount option while we were getting our earmolds made.

I think we got a discount as we where discussing a OzSTOC discount option while we were getting our earmolds made.

From what I can gather, it is going to be up to the individual Earmould franchisee if we are going to get a discount or not, I didn't ask for a discount when we got ours made, but I knew it was cheaper than normal retail.

Who did you go and see?

Although I don't like Earmolds, I know that a lot of riders do like them.   It may be possible to invite one of the Victorian Earmold agents to come along to the Ballarat National Rally.

Had Gordon from Earmoulds in Tamworth attend the recent Ebor Overnight RTE and was productive for both parties.....he already booked for the Uralla Xmas in July next year.

Very easy people to deal with Earmould and their selected agents.

Just got back from seeing Aaron at Northgate in Brisbane. He did a replcement set of plugs for the MP3 cables. Originally $70, we were talking about bikes and when I mentioned the club he dropped to $60.

By the way Streak, he said to mention him and the service as he appears to be doing a discount for club members. He was an agent until two years ago when he and his wife bought the Australasian franchise. I know Nicky and can recommend her services also.

He even rides, although it is a Victory. Had to keep the wife happy.

These are fantastic and anything that can what is left of my hearing has to be good.

I got into the Earmold market years ago and paid $220 for a pair of speaker-tubed ones.  I rode away expecting silence and was very disappointed with their performance.  Obviously most folk have been very happy with their products.
Another aspect that was unsatisfactory was they pushed hard against my skull with the helmet on; so hard I couldn't bear them for more than ten minutes or so.  I shaved a couple of mm off and blocked the tube hole and while they were more comfortable, I still had the wind noise.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

So have you resolved to a plan "B" Bill ??

I had a set made in earmoulds only (12mm thick) a few months ago that offered less bulk than the air tube Earmoulds (18mm thick) perhaps the thinner moulds only and continue with speakers may work for you.

If I used quality foam plugs and took the time to insert them correctly I still couldn't come close to he reduction in wind noise the Earmoulds provided.

With our speakers in our helmets and Earmoulds in situ we couldn't communicate via intercom with effect beyond about 100kph......Air-tubes in Earmoulds solved the issue, and we only checked that for scientific purposes.....enjoyment was not apart of it at all

Cheers

Earmolds won't give silence, as you would not be able to hear anything going on around. The idea is to moderate to sounds that cause hearing damage to safe levels.  I don't listen to music while riding, but having clear GPS and CB with minimal volume at any speed is great.

True- I was over-stating the expectation (partly because of the hype and the cost).  But in reality, they didn't attenuate the noise to any perceptible extent.  I'll get them out of the drawer and give them another go.  I even forked out for a Starcom connector that was 2.5mm stereo plug compatible.

If they don't have the volume control on them, you will have to play around with the volume settings on the starcom to get the various sound inputs to the right volume level in the earmolds.  With the volume control on mine, if it is set below a certain level the sound coming through seems faint and a bit tinny. Once up a level the quality is much better.

I had my Earmoulds made up last Friday just in time to test then out on the CMA ride to Maryborough over the weekend.
They reduced the wind noise quite remarkably and I was still able to hear my GPS and surrounding traffic etc.
Since returning home my hearing seams to have improved also with the Tinnitus ringing being a lot quieter.
Would recommend anyone thinking about them to go ahead and purchase.
Nicky's is a great professional if you live in her area I thoroughly recommend giving her a call.
