New FNQ owner.
« on: August 07, 2013, 09:24:36 PM »
Hi Guys, Another ST1300 owner here from Atherton, FNQ.

Only picked the bike up last week, a 1 owner 2004 model with 58,000 k's. Its a nice step up from my old 87 CBR 600  :thumbs

I'm a licensed aircraft engineer, working in general aviation so getting a new toy with EFI & all sorts of electronics is a nice change from playing with air-cooled dino engines :) No more carb'd bikes for me, not that I hate them but I prefer the fuel injected way of doing things..

Why the ST1300? I wanted something comfortable for my daily 60k commute, that I can take out on weekends for some fun, and also still be able to take the other half in comfort. (She has never been on a bike, so this shall be interesting)

Did a service on it today since the dealer didn't.. Found a coolant leak to take care of in a few weeks when I was planning on doing a coolant flush anyway.
Future plans will include heated grips, and a stereo/music system :)

I've also got a long-term project '68 Mustang in the shed, but its a few years off finished at the rate I get to work on it now..  :'(

Anyway, the part everybody wants... PICS!

That bike will be spoiled having a LAME to take care of her.

You're a lucky bloke, getting one of the RED ones.

Welcome to the fray.  There are a few other firm believers around the FNQ.  Have a look at the Member Map.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

What is it with Red 1300's and North Qld ????  :||||

Hey Me, a warm welcome from Townsville, we have a ride on later this month to Tully Heads Tavern for lunch.

Your more than welcome to come along as the Cairns Guys join in from time to time. You'll fit right in cause all of the 1300's in Townsville are bloody red.... Long story and happy to tell over lunch... In fact there are several in Townsville that will be happy to tell the story.

I'll send you details of the ride.

Welcome Me_3. Are you the bloke who bought the bike from Wayne Leonards in Cairns? I was sitting at the front of the shop drinking coffee with the Ulysses crowd when you came in and test rode it. I put an OzStoc card in the right hand glove box ages ago.
The guy that originally owned the bike is a mate of mine and he looked after it when he had it, making sure it was serviced regularly and kept maintained. I suspect the coolant leak may be because it has sat for a long while at the shop before being sold, my 1100 developed an coolant leak not long after I got it due to sitting and not being run regularly and the seals had gone hard.
Look forward to catching up soon.
Cheers,
BB.

That would be me.. I'm still 9 years short of joining the Ulysses, but I don't have much time free for more club runs between work, ford club, and projects. :)

I'm not worried about the coolant leak, i'll get around to pulling it apart later on (its in the shed this week since I have my kids for the whole week), but as long as it doesn't loose lots of coolant i'm not worried. I've done 800km now and its only a tiny amount that I wouldn't have spotted if I didn't pull covers off things while looking around and doing the oil change..

I might try and get along to this run, all depends on what time I finish work on the sat night, and if the Girlfriend is game to try a good distance run as her first long trip on a bike..
