Kaoko Throttle lock
« on: August 16, 2013, 10:13:37 PM »
The kaoko throttle lock is shortly going into production for the ST1100, I have been in contact with the guys at Kaoko in South Africa and I just wondered if any 1100 riders would be interested in purchasing one. I think they will be imported through a dealer in NSW. Updates to follow.

Great stuff, they seem like the best throttle lock out there.  Pity I couldn't find one to suit the ST1100 would have bought one by now.

Keen to check out the review... and see if you can get two of them :)

throttlemeister from the US do a similar one, but in my mind the kaoko is the better. I wanted the kaoko because I could use heated grips with them.

Mornin' bloodbikes et al,

If, like the dealer in NSW you too reside in NSW where l believe annual vehicle inspections are required in order to re-register your ride, l strongly suspect these friction locking device will make your ST unroadworthy :'(

Though we in Vic dont have to paticipate in anual inspections (yet), we nevertheless come across the odd police trafic operations mangement task force with VicRoads inspectors in tow and have read a tale of an interrupted Sunday ride due to a throatle friction lock. So would NSW (or any other state), for that matter be any different :think1

Either way, reckon it'd be niegh impossible in stopping half a ton of ST1100 in an emergency with 2 to 4 thousand revs still wanting to propel ya forward.

Just a thought.

Ciao the can:-)

It will interesting to hear from someone in a State were annual inspections are carried out, and who has a throttle lock fitted to their bike.
Has your bike passed inspection, if you have a throttle lock fitted?

Yep passed every time......both bikes over last 6 years, with Kaoko on the 1300 and Vista on the 1100 few different inspection stations and 2 of them motorbike specific workshops not just the local car garage.

Have NEP throttle lock on the 1100, and no issues at rego time. An noticeable addition to the grip area.

Have Throttlemeister on the 1300, and no issues at rego time. Blends in like handlebar end weights.
At my age " getting lucky" is remembering what I came in the room for ;)

I live in WA, where we have no annual inspections, so not a problem. and it could be classed as a cruise control so should be admissible under the road traffic act. The Kaoko lock is not like the temporary cruise control versions it is integral to the handlebar and replaces the bar end weight.

How did you go with this? I am hanging for a throttle lock, holding back on buying one of these BrakeAway units.

It was something almost identical to this one, which I bought from a shop in Vic Park.

Here is what I have and it works a treat when you cable tie the bottom section to the throttle lines. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271136291181?redirect=mobile
I had to trim rubber on outside of grip to free it all up a little as it was a little tight.
I will take photo tomorrow and post.
