Movember nearly here again
« on: October 14, 2013, 06:46:17 PM »
As the title says, its nearly MOvember again.

I'm in (Mobro.dalemcleanhttp://au.movember.com/mospace/2970921) if anyone wants to contribute (and have a laugh at my expense).

Anyone in the greater newcastle area that wants to join in my MOtorcycle ride (facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/1419271901627167/) is welcome, just kick in $20 on the day and you'll get a stick on MO for the bike. I'm only getting 100 of them made so only the 1st 100 will get one.

Just get talking about mens health and save a life or 2

My dad is doing really well. The cancer was 15 years ago, it was picked up through the PSA blood tests he started having after a close friend died from prostate cancer. He's had lots of ongoing complications following surgery and radiotherapy, but a couple of years ago he had a surgical procedure to fit an artificial sphincter which has finally fixed his incontinence problems.  Unfortunately his two younger brothers are not doing so well. Despite his advice they didn't do any testing until they had prostate symptoms. Both of them now have secondary tumours.

My brothers and I were worried that dad's depression may become a problem again earlier this year after mum passed away, but because we were all (including dad) aware of the risk, he's been able to keep on top of it. He bought himself a Virago a few months ago and is now riding again. He had stopped after his last heart attack, but with the smaller bike he's able to get out there and enjoy himself.

As I said, these issues are close to my heart.   Guys, get yourselves off to the doc, have the blood test, go back and get the results. It could save your life!!

Nothing quite like a motorcycle to fend off depression!   :rockon

Now if he'd like to go one step further and be "over the moon" he should buy an ST!    :grin

That's the first I've heard of an artificial sphincter.  Will have to google that one.  Sounds fascinating.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

It's another one of those things you blokes tend not to want to talk about.  My dad has been a member of the prostate cancer support group up here for ages, talks openly about his experiences.

I too am willing to talk to ANYONE about the experience, I was offered support by many acquantances (throught the bike community  :thumbsup) and it was a great insight that helped initially.

I have just accepted the consequences of "still breathing" and got on with life after the operations and side effects, BUT I know others who have not  :'(

I'll have you know I ADD that colour (its not natural  :crackup) just for the "distinguished look"

PS I organized a MOtorcycle ride for MOvember last Sunday - 35 bikes and near $800 raised  :thumbsup
