Possibly downsizing my ST!!!!!!
« on: October 15, 2013, 05:01:21 PM »
Its a sad time however I really cannot justify keeping my ST in the garage and getting it out once every few months so I'm thinking (only thinking at the moment) of selling to buy something cheaper to sit in the garage!  Work commitments currently prevent using the bike regularly.

Can anyone advise whats the going rate at the moment for an ST1300A, 2008 model with around 25,000 kms, custom seat, RAM iphone and sat nav mounts, trickle charger, top box/panniers, just had major 25,000 kms service up in Inverell and is in great condition:-) like the one below! :13Candy

Just need an idea whether its worth selling and buying something cheaper (VFR previously advertised would have been an option) or just to keep hold at the moment.

You'll regret it if you do. My '94 1100 is now worth nothing towards a new bike so I am going to ride it until I no longer can or cannot keep it going.
If you buy another bike wont it just sit in the shed too?

True but if I buy a bike worth half the value it wouldn't matter so much

Hi I am only new here, but if its not a money issue to move it on, then don't, better to keep something that's worth more than the money!

Just a thought, Good luck` :-(((

You could start recouping some cost by selling me that seat !!! :well   Just sayin'
I am however inclined to agree with Steve. Do your homework, BUT, if you do think it's worth a down grade........ give me a call.

Iv'e been studying the market for a fair while (so i know what things are worth should my house ever sell) I'd say around $12,000 is the kind of money that will get it sold ,you do see others about with say $14000 but they don't sell.Any how i understand your predicament.hope this helps ,Regards Noel

.... others about with say $14000 but they don't sell.
That's the impression I got when looking around for my ST1300 back in July.  Some guys were asking $16,000 to $18,000 for their low km ST13's, one guy was $21,000.

I, and no doubt a few others, preferred a new one for $16,500 on the road, and so the 'over-priced' ones (at the time) didn't sell.

But now that all the new ST13's are all gone, I suspect the recent model, low km bikes will appreciate in value, or at least hold their value.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

The bike is so well set up you'd be mad to let it go.  You won't get what it's worth, with those ridiculously low kays.
The obvious solution is to reprioritise and ride it more often.    :grin

If you do hold onto it, you'll need to keep cleaning and running it, so you might as well slip in 30 minutes riding every couple of weekends.  You need it yourself for your sanity as well as keeping your skills moderately sharp.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

So does that mean the "Blood Bikes" project has ended?

Biggles not entirely.  It's very complex unfortunately and as It would be a registered charity it has to have a committee, etc.  the ST goes for now and if I manage to sought out the venture then I'll source bikes at that time.
