Some of you know I'm having an op on my shoulder, a Biceps Tendonesis.

After fasting from 6:30 am Yesterday (5th Nov) and arriving at the hospital at Midday, I sat and waited

and waited

.

Then with the nurses doing shift change handover they had a Trainee nurse with them who would be doing my post op care and she was excited at the prospect of being able to go in and see her first operation. Later the lady in charge of the Trainees dutifully asked for my permission for her to observe my operation which I gladly gave as we all have to learn somewhere.

At a few minutes to 7 pm the Dr came in and apologised for being late as I had been scheduled for 2:30 pm. He just finished a difficult operation that had taken much longer than expected, and he'd been called away to an emergency where someone had sliced the ends of their fingers off, so it would be around midnight before he might get to my operation. He gave me the choice of waiting until Midnight or coming back today at 3:00pm for an op at 5:40 pm.I want him wide awake not dead on his feet when he starts on me, so I opted to come back home and EAT

and sleep in my own bed.

I understand emergency cases must get priority and do not begrudge the delay so now I have to fast again today from 9:00 am and hope he doesn't get called away again.

It's a sad fact of life that these expert surgeons are so urgently needed that they work ridiculous hours. Hardly leaves any time to tear around in their Lamborghinis.

Hopefully this will all become a blurr once your shoulder is repaired. The Op has a very successful outcome rate.

All the best Gary. I had a rotator cuff reconstruction, and the worst part was the post op physiotherapy. For weeks I had to crawl my hand up the glass of the shower to force my arm up so the tendon would stretch. However, the more physio you do the better the rersult of the operation will be, so don't skimp!

All done and back home.

At least 2 weeks off work.

Ordered some (2 metres of each) 3M diamond grade reflective tape (flouro yellow and red) that should arrive today. When I'm feeling better that might give me something to do.

And X-box video and Crackle. Crackle has a lot of oldies I don't get to watch with the wife around.

I guess you must be getting it done privately as for me to get both knees and 1 cataract done via the pubr hospital
Will not happen in my life time unless the RPA wants to put it on camera .maybe

Yes Tipsy.

It cost me, $6620 for the hospital, $2700 for the surgeon, and $770 for the Anaesthetist.

I have another 15+ years in the work force, so I'm willing to spend the money so I can keep working.

I can recommend Dr Reagan Brosnan as an Ortho. Brilliant and funny.

I hope you can get sorted soon mate.

That includes $500 for the gas guy and I stay awke the hole time.go figure.
The hospital bed gets the rest and I only sit in a chair. Go figure.
But imigh get that done next year.
Knees thats a different story. $26,000 per.

I had both my cataracts done back in 2006, don't remember costs, I do remember being awake the whole time - watching what was happening.

I think the anesthetic (gas guy) wasn't to make me sleep, just to keep me calm.

Well the next day, 6th Nov, all went to plan and I had my operation.

I have been recovering well and will be returning to work on Monday.

Having said that, the Pain Killers were very good, but made me so sleepy and fuzzy headed for so long I was glad to no longer require them.

I tried sitting on the bike the other day and could once again reach the handle bars.

In desperate need for some time in the saddle, today I took very short ride to the local shopping centre and back to home. I felt very comfortable and feel I could easily do the 30 minutes to work on Monday. I think I'm going to have a little trouble convincing the Wife that I can.

Good move with the pain killers- best not to depend on them longer than essential.

Glad you're back on the bike. Women are a bit of a hurdle in making a quick recovery. Hope you can win that battle (maybe bigger) too!
