FarRide #27 Finished
« on: November 10, 2013, 07:39:34 PM »
Well guys have now completed my first FarRide (1000kms).  :runyay

Due to an embarrassing injury I received earlier in the week that involved a mountain bike and my tushy we rode a route that gave us a few escape routes on the first leg in case we needed to pull out of the ride.  >:()

So we left home at 12:30 bound for Tenterfield, Bonshaw, Inverell, Tingha, Uralla then Tamworth to meet up with Abe who had left from Sydney that same day. We left Tamworth in the dark which made me feel a little nervous with the amount of kangaroos that are around at the moment with the dry weather, but the additional lights Chris added to STig made the world of difference and the fact that I feel very safe with him.

We left the next morning bound for the finish at Urbenville and shared our breakfast in Tenterfield with a number of other riders on the same ride. The road from Tenterfield to Tabulam was just how I like it with a combination of straight and twistee bits, but the road from Tabulum to Urbenville played havoc with my war wound and caused ST2UP great amusement.

Arriving in Urbenville 15mins before check in opened we were greeted by all types of bikes up the Main Street and even one on the roof of the pub. With our fuel docket presented and a 1030kms travelled I had earned my FarRider number.

We had a great meal and the opportunity to chat with others who had completed the ride and awaited the arrival of a certain OzSTOC member who had some timing issues which I'm lead to believe is a common occurrence on FarRides, but you will have to ask him about that  :rofl :rofl although in his defence this was a ride to say hello not check in  :Blow

Note the time on the pic from the FarRiders site  :whistle

After lunch we headed for Woodenbong, Kyogle and then the heat of Casino  :|||| then on to Grafton and the Orara Way to Coffs Harbour and onto our overnight stay at Urunga, and I agree with Saaz that this would be a great RTE destination.  :thumbs

This morning we parted company with our travel buddy Abe, the plan for us today depending on the forecast of rain was a ride with a different challenge to travel the least possible distance and consume as much coffee and conversation with friends and family's as possible, and we succeeded, it took us a total of 10 coffees, 1 croissant, 1 muffin, 4 biscuits 1 BLT, 1 hamburger and two pieces of cake to travel the 200ks home over 9 hours.  :rofl  :rofl.

The frequent stops and checks of weatherzone made it possible to weave our way around heavy rain and hail storms on our journey home with only light showers to ride through.

We had a splendid weekend with great company, had riding temps from 12 with rain through to 38 and stinking hot  :well

Looking forward to doing it all again with hubby  :thumbsup

Pockey  :wink1

Well done Pockey (and that other bloke).  Since I missed this one (and the one before..) an RTE of some sort should be on the cards. Just have to check how many dates we have and locations already selected.

Breakfast/lunch at the cafe on the river, dinner and a few drinks at the Hotel...sounds like a plan to me.

Well done Pockey on another great milestone to tick off the list.

That you did it under the duress of putting up with MANY pains in the A$$ this weekend makes it even a little bit sweeter too.       :thumbs              :rofl

Sorry I missed you guys - but she is a  :13Candy  and not a Tardis.      :wink1

Thanks for a very interesting report.  Great that you've earned your number.  You should get a merit certificate for having done it on a wounded tush.  I hope you wriggled around on the pillion seat the whole time if ST2UP found your suffering so amusing.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
