VLAD Laws
« on: January 07, 2014, 02:43:09 PM »
Hi Chaps
Have any of you had first hand experience with this law, ie been pulled over, harrased, threatened, searched, strip searched etc etc.
Have any of you withdrawn from group rides because of the laws?
I am curious as to the impact the laws are having.
Cheers
Laurie

Don't know anyone who has been pulled up due to these laws.. I do know a couple of people who have been pulled up because of laws related to speeding. They admitted they were at fault  :grin

I think they know who their targets are, I don't believe riders such as ourselves have too much to worry about! :-(((

On some rides I wear my Blue Knights vest with back patch.  Doesn't attract attention from the Police but does get me some "looks" from OMCGs that I pass.

Nope I haven't. Have a friend in Brisbane who was pulled over 7 times on his way to work (Ipswich to Bris Port) in one trip. Rides a Busa and wears normal riding gear.

Ya gotta wonder how that works! I don't see 7 Coppers a week travelling around my local suburbs.
Been pulled over twice in two years.  Once radared at 75 in a 60 (that became a 70 two weeks later- Beckett Rd Carseldine- the rest of that road was already 70, but had an odd 60 section) and once for lane splitting (but they were called away to deal with a "real" criminal before they had time to write my ticket.     :grin

I've never been pulled over on my ST, or on my previous bike for that matter (Yamaha XVS 1100), in fact the last time I was pulled over on a bike was when I was seventeen years of age (56 years ago) and they booked me for riding without a licence and carrying a pillion as well!!  Been pinged a few times in the car for very minor speeding charges though, once for going through a stop light, the vision of which was obscured by a huge truck, and once for slightly crossing double lines, not too many considering the huge number of Kls (millions) I've clocked up over the past 55 years that I've held a drivers licence! :grin

I don't expect to be pulled over, I ride a white ST1100  :wht11, wear black pants and jackjet, a fluoro yellow vest and a white helmet.

In fact I see cars about to come out of side streets dip as they brake because the driver thinks "Oops, cop bike!!!"

Yes that's happened quite a few times, strange how peoples judgement changes when the "law" is around.

Only ever ride my own ride, helps me to stay above ground!

I'm in the same boat, happens to me all the time. I often have a little laugh about it.  It can be a little confronting though when at a roundabout and about to give away to the vehicle that has right of way, and they stop and wave you through, or you're travelling behind a vehicle and they suddenly check their rear view mirror, brake and pull over to the left, sometimes almost stopping so you can go past them.  These things, and many more "give ways" have happened to me while riding the bike. :eek

I thought I was over cars slowing down in front when not riding the white ST1100. Seems I still look enough like a possible cop bike, must be the white helmet or look of the front of the bike.  There are a lot of paranoid drivers out there who don't seem to know that they are actually going under the speed limit so have not problems (other than competence!!!)

No,

but I have some civil libertarian type family members who PERSONALLY know of THOUSANDS of people who have been unjustly pulled over and harassed because of these laws. Scooter riders too I'm told!

It's apparently just the Government trying to control the slaves one law at a time.

When they come back from their current trip (they are looking for pixie dust and something called "tooth of ogre") I'll ask if they saw any cops bashing riders on the side of the road demanding their colours.

I'm sure that people are more careful when I get behind them on my ST1100.. and it's black.. maybe it's the shape.. my helmet is the white Nolan flip-face..
I had a car today that moved into the left passing lane (the short ones where there is a right turn).. pain the the clacka coz I'm not going to do it, so I had to wait til he got his act together and got going again.. then 100 metres down the road I used the broken line to pass him.
