I need help

During the weekends festivities my UHF would receive normally but transmission was very quiet. Signal strength is strong. I have a scala q3 headset and my thinking is the headset may be the problem. Has anybody had experience with these headsets.

I have or am looking into
1. New antenna
2. replaced cable with the new one supplied with antenna
3. reset gain on sena sr10 if i can
4. look at resetting q3 sensitivity or gain
5. lokk at adjusting 2way UN7700
Any input from riders to Dwellingup may be of benefit.

Wombat,

The signal strength of your radio was good, no need to touch that or the antenna. Easy test, set up two bikes a K or so apart, test 1 used helmet. test 2 use hand mike plugged in. Im betting test 2 is fine.

SR10 does have some settings that can be changed, just plug in to your puter via a USB lead. Update the firmware while you are at it. Also, see if you can change the settings in the Scala, it may have a setting for mic gain

Dont try messing about with the radio, you could bugger it totaly.

I have been thinking about Rays problem as well, and I think he might be suffering from poor audio input as well, as I was able to talk to him over about 15 to 20Ks, but he had poor audio..

my thinking exactly. Yorkie has altered gain on his sena as well. I will try at work and report back

Dont forget IF yours is an 80 channel radio and the recievers is a 40 channel radio YOU WILL be about 1/2 - 1/3rd teh volume of a 40 channel radio to them.And they will be double teh volume to you of an 80 channel to you.

Yours was doing OK Turtle, but then again, I set my radio to wideband on the lower 40 and that removes some of that problem.

Might be time for an upgrade to an 80 Channel for me on the bike i think and as Yorkie said 80 Channel you can get away from the S&%T below 40

I found your volume to be very low. Not as low as Wombat's but still very difficult to make out all your words.
I do need a new helmet though as I get a lot of wind noise.
I have the Uniden 7700NB 80 channel running through Sena SR10 to Interphone F5 on helmet.

Wombat, you are welcome anytime to come up and test stuff here. Could probably do a test run out via Alfreds

OK report so far.

New antenna on

New cable on

reset sena sr10 to high gain after much talking to computer

reset gain on Scala q3 although i dont think necessary

No touchy on radio.

Put back together tonight
Tuesday dentist invited me to his couch

so no talking or eating at Alfreds

May send you pm Turtle as we may be able to talk from home otherwise Wednesday maybe for trialling

Audio quality picks up if you have ear buds/ moulded plugs, as sound is directly into ear canal and not competing with wind and ear plugs

Yep but it kinda makes the whole wireless helmet thingo hard.... Will just have to get new helmet as this is 7 years old now anyway and foam / lining looking a bit sad.

What is the Sena Base ???? You mean the helmet mounted appliance ??? I don't think the Interphones have an audio out.

Hey Wombat,
Here is a quick guide to how my Uniden 7700NB is cabled using a home-made cable with Sena SR10 plug to RJ45. All praises go to Yorkie

Glad we found the problem.
I had to use a Cat3 phone cable as the cable that came with mine was not the standard Open Ended cable rather it was "what he had most of on the shelf" with the thought (wrong) that all wires would be in the cable.
Brock, good call on testing with original cabled handset. Using that, the radio had no hum and modulation was very good both in close and over distance.

Hope this helps others that may be looking into this.

Thanks for that Pezzz. For all and sundry Pezzz and I isolated a problem with my UHF to the connecting cable. It gave out a hummmmmm and my voice was extremely quiet. A new cable is planned and we think that may be the answer.

Thought I would chime in with the "fix" to the problems I was having. Every second time I started the bike the CB would turn on, But the on/off switch became a PTT, and every other time it would not turn on at all. I was also having issues with my music not muting etc.

After a couple of E-Mails to/from Dale, I decided to give the u-beaut fuseblock I was using the flick, and rewire everything through some clip together inline fuses. Bingo, all was playing together correctly yesterday. I will be giving it all a good workout ( plus my new HID Headlight ) next weekend on the FarRide.

It seems to be that if you are using any comms gear with the Starcomm system, DO NOT use a pre made fuseblock at all. There seems to be an issue with the way they are earthed.

It wont be a "fault" as such.

They tend to raise their "earth" up to 1.5 V above bike ground

. I can only assume via a diode or two in series or a sensing resistor.

This then gives an earth potential difference between devices and bike

.

It will be interesting to look at Dale, to find the cause of that. May be I can find a fix that will be of benefit to others. That depends on Ray having kept the fuse block but.

Rays description of the fault has me puzzled a bit, but electronics can do strange things sometimes.
