Rear axle spindles (spools?)
« on: February 05, 2014, 02:30:10 PM »
I have been given a rear axle stand.  Is it possible to put rear axle spindles, or are they called spools, onto the rear axle of an ST1100.

I see the advantage of having my bike up on this stand when I do whatever maintenance I do on it.  At the moment the bike is at home and I'm sitting here at work with my new/used stand.  I would have looked if I had the bike here.

I doubt if there would be enough clearance between the end of the axle and the muffler during normal operation. Putting the bike on the centre stand allows the swing arm to drop low enough to allow the bolt to come out under the muffler.

The end of the axle on LH side is flush with swing arm so I doubt if any thing would work on that side either.

I see what you mean alan.  Had a look last night when I got home.  Will have to hold onto the axle stand until I get another bike.  Not only is there nowhere to put the spindles, but the exhaust pipes are in the way on the rhs.

Why not use the centre stand for the back wheel and your new stand for the front wheel?
