I don't use US gallons and I don't use NPT. API and SAE standards only apply if there's no other alternative, DOT helmet classifications I'll go along with but that's the thin edge of the wedge.
I would like one day to ride up the east coast of the USA, across the top, and down the west coast, so I suppose I'll have to use miles/USgal if I do that. So:
5.5 L/100km
= 18.2 km/L
= 51 mpg - ah, that's not bad at all
and that's 42.5 miles/USgal
Here in tropical QLD that's close to $A0.09/km, in the USA that'd be $A0.06/km
