As stated in the subject above Mathamatics and I are not friends

... we rarely see eye to eye on anything other than the cost of a schooner of beer.

I am trying to work out a conversion from the KM's per Liter you people are talking on the forum into to liters per 100KM..... its so I can compare the car we have Vs. the impending STeed I am going to own.

sooooo ....... if you say you are getting 15 km's to the liter does that equate to 1.5 liters per 100 km's??

Not sure if that sounds right to me.

Don't worry - I had to use a conversion app on my phone to validate the formula. I didn't want to post a wrong.

Divide 100 by your 15 km/litre...

100/15 = 6.67 litres per 100km

Spanner, you may find the thread below to be useful as well, as it discusses fuel range calculations. My ST1300 returns an average of 5.4 litres per hundred kilometers, over a wide range of conditions an speeds. and this is probably pretty typical.

Spanner I use an excel spread sheet.
If you are familiar with them I would be happy to email you one with what ever figures you want it to show. Just insert distance and amount of fuel used. Can also use it to keep a running total of fuel costs

5.5 L/100km
= 18.2 km/L
= 51 mpg - ah, that's not bad at all

FYI........I've averaged 20.6kls per litre for the past 26,000kls, with almost all riding being done on country roads/highway. I don't find the ST a very suitable commute bike for riding around city streets, if I was 150mm taller, with longer legs I might feel differently, but it's not a bike I enjoy riding around town.

I don't use US gallons and I don't use NPT. API and SAE standards only apply if there's no other alternative, DOT helmet classifications I'll go along with but that's the thin edge of the wedge.

I would like one day to ride up the east coast of the USA, across the top, and down the west coast, so I suppose I'll have to use miles/USgal if I do that. So:

5.5 L/100km
= 18.2 km/L
= 51 mpg - ah, that's not bad at all
and that's 42.5 miles/USgal

Here in tropical QLD that's close to $A0.09/km, in the USA that'd be $A0.06/km

If you figured out the total cost per km for owning and riding the bike you'd think twice about going out on a day ride.
My ex-Police 2000 ST1100 that I paid $7840 for back in 2006 cost me cost $10.13 per day to own and operate.
Or 29.32 cents/km taking everything in account including proceeds from sale and PPE.
Obviously the longer you keep a bike and the further you ride it, the more these figures come down.
