WTF!
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:25:13 PM »

I know it's a Honda 750/4 but what the hell are they doing with it??  WOW:

It is drag racing if you look up Thunderbolts Rally at Dungog on YouTube you will see them. I wondered why when I saw it but each to his own I guess.

They seem to only go 20 metres before quitting.
Maybe there's still room for two wheels in this mad world.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Here are the Aussie guys doing it.

Thunderbolts Rally - Dungog NSW

Thunderbolts rally is great fun BTW. Well worth the trip. It is run by the Central Coast American MotorCycle club for Cystic Fibrosis. Has heaps of bikes cars and people doing generally stupid stuff.  Like drag racing bikes with one wheel. ( Despite the appearance it always has a great vibe as well i think because of the chairty it supports)

http://www.visitnsw.com/events/thunderbolt-rally

I live in the area and it attracts literally hundreds on bikes and heaps of cool cars as well.

All you can hear is Hogs going up and down the road all weekend and this year at least one ST 1300.
Er...Maybe you won't hear the ST.

Soooo? I still don't get the point. We have dirt drag racing with two wheels, so why take the front one off?    :o
Noticed that the bikes were all Japanese, where are the tractors? Surely they would be good for dirt drags?  :rofl
I am not about to take the front wheel of my drag bike (tar type) to try that.  :eek
Wonder what is next, NO wheel drag racing?

I thinks it possibly recycling  :fp. Pardon the pun. But probe lay bikes from the wreckers with front end damage  being reused in an 'appropriate' manner.

I think many  of the people who indulge in  these types of activities would find themselevs as candidates for the Darwin Awards. May be that is the point.
Besides that it is great fun for the rest of us.

They're fantastic!
I can't see anything wrong with those stunts.  Defy physics for as long as you can, I reckon.

But I don't quite "get" engineering a one wheeled bike to just tear up the lawn for 20 metres.

I have to totally disagree Biggles.

In this world of social media there is a dangerous culture of one up mans ship. Do anything to get you head on youTube.  It is leading to particularly young males to  try and defy physics as you say too often and as we all know physics will always win in the end.

There was a case where a young lad was killed here at Maitland show last year trying to break a world long distance for a motorcycle jump (on a 125 I think).

The media proclaimed it a tragedy. It wasn't,  it was pre ordained. If one keeps trying to set records evetually you will go too far and somettimes pay a terrible price as this young man did. He was only 17 or 18 and everyone consoled themselves by saying he died doing what he loved. I wonder in the cold light of day if those who supported him and basked in the glory of his achievements have ever re-thought their role in his demise. A life well lived is worth so much more than a cheap stunt to grab a headline.

But hey never being one to stand in the way of another individuals rights even if it is to do something stupid, as long as my taxes don't have to pick the medical bills knock your self out. Pardon the pun.

As motorcyclist we all take a risk that the rest of the population don't every time we jump on a bike. But it is a calculated risk with well established safety protocols and most of us do whatever we can to minimise the chance of an accident.

I have seen the case in point first hand and it is fairly harmless, I even prepared a car for the daughters boyfriend to enter into the smash up derby at the same event. (sadly the attempt on his life failed) but we do need to be careful of what we encourage people to do. Particularly young boned headed Gen Y's. (not that there would be many reading this forum!!)
