THANK THE GODS - got my motorbike license before these mad, idiot, pen pushing, back room government morons got involved !!!

Basically just rode my 650cc BSA A10 from the army base at Karrakatta (Perth) to the Subiaco Police Station, just 10 minutes away, early one morning, went in and asked the nice policeman with the three stripes and a large stomach if I could do a motorbike riders test.
He very obligingly said " Sure - got any sort of a license and a bike with you ? - Right, outside now."
Went out to the street, gave him my piece of paper (civilian car license) told him a mate had ridden the bike there for me and had gone off with another guy in an army land rover to get something to eat. No problems with that either.

Basically he told me to ride around the block and not to fall off. Thought he was going to follow me on a police bike - NO !

Rode around the block, didn't fall off, got back to where I'd started.
The nice man was standing exactly where I'd left him, having a morning cigarette.

Said " Yer - OK. " Scribbled on my license, handed it back to me as said - " You can piss off now - you've got your motorbike license."
Looked at my license paper, it said 'Class D' approved' and a signature of sorts with the date.
He also scribbled right across it - ' TEMPERORY AUSTRALIAN '

The old days where much better - except for the fact we didn't have ST's back then.

Flip
( SIGHS !!! NO HONDA ST's in Viet Nam either !

Took nearly a full day of passport, WA MDL, 'house card' (valid living address ID) and other paperwork to be translated, BUT - no booking required.
Just AUS $10.50 mostly 'coffee bribes' to get my first VN driver's license.
Someone made a stuff up. (something NO VN government worker/official will ever admit to)
Instead of a 1 year restricted to 175cc bike license - have a full 5 year drive/ride anything of any size you like, including buses, trucks, etc, whatever license !
