Company for the ride ???
« on: March 09, 2014, 10:39:55 PM »
So this was last night after a few hours in the saddle. Had just come back onto bitumen road after doing a favour sent us a few kms down gravel.

Roo time

The bloody thing would not get out of the way. I tried Low beam, high beam and even beeping the horn. Had a learner and a freaking out wife on 2 more bikes behind me. Eventually when I went around it went between the other 2 bikes.
This is the closest I have been to a Roo on the road (although earlier in the ride i had one suddenly appear beside me on a corner) and was a bit worried he would turn around and ram me or knock me off the bike somehow.
Might look into a set of the plastic Roo Shoes. I here that they work better for unicorns as no one has seen one of them while riding with them.

Yep- was going to say you need a pair of Shoo Roos.  A Stebel Nautilus helps, too.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Have had one in my watch list on ebay for awhile, but the leader for war and finance shot me down on that one.
Although maybe now if I bring it back up and tell her how it would have made her safer last night ..........     :think1 :think1 :think1   nah .. will still be shot down I think ...

Great Video Pezz. The roos that worry me are the ones you don't see.

This is the reason we never ride at night on our country roads in Tassie, I've hit so many wallabies, possums, etc at night both in my car and while driving the Ambulance that it's just not worth the risk. Also picked up a couple of riders who did chance it and came to grief, it's one way to stuff up a Tassie holiday! :eek

I agree, and they work with other African wildlife too.
My "humble" observation is that the wildlife I see, including birds, invariably swerve away or take-off away from the bike.
There's always the likelihood I'm going to encounter a roo as deaf as me and we'll not be "so happy together" as the Turtles (no not you turtle) used to sing.

That vid reminds me of early departures from York for far-rides, has happened more than once.

So at what age does this "old enough to know better" kick in?
I believe in the "hereafter", every time I go to the shed I have to think "what am I here after"

Sometimes to get them to move you have to turn off the lights. They often stay in the light because they can see.

I thought of that ... now.. how to do this on a ST1100 ?? No off switch for lights... I tried flashing and beeping.... After turning the HIDs and Halogens off i thought i had pretty much turned all my lights off ....
