Luggage Options
« on: May 01, 2014, 10:10:37 AM »
Well I am slowly setting the ST1100 up for some longer trips, the following add ons are a must, 2 x 12v outlets in the glove box, new seat, handlebar risers, and a windscreen deflector.

now comes to the luggage carrying, it has the side panniers, and genuine top box.

I have since bought a Besteem top box little more space

and then stumbled across this "LITTLE" sucker so i thought i would buy it and see what its like, whilst more so a food carrier lol 90ltrs So i thought it would be of some advantage, the photos are just a mock up sit on, I will fabricate a base plate to bolt straight onto the besteem plate, and then Im in the process of making a custom backrest for each box, i will make the backrest with arms so it snugs in ma gal.

have a nice day

i have to agree with turtle, it will really knock you around on the bike having a box that big, although you will have to carry the beer for us all!

Looks like it'll carry lots of stuff :thumbsup
But if you want to take Sarah on the back with that topbox, it may be worth attaching a backrest pad (That hinge looks painful :eek)

Thought that comes to my mind is how much weight you are going to be able to put in the box, what effect that will have on handling being so far back and whether the frame of the ST is able to handle it.

All good the base plate and undertray will take most of that up

the box will not be used as a pack mule either, 90% of the weight will be in a very similar position to the besteem box :)

The ST frame can carry an elephant, if you can work out how to stuff it in that box.....

OK, its close to lunch, blood sugar getting low

You'll be able to fit the kitchen sink in that one Ray, but if you're looking to carry a lot of gear with you it might be worth considering towing a trailer.........then you'll be able to take the wide screen TV as well!! ;-*
There are many paths to the top of the mountain.....but we all need to find our own way!

I have found over the years that having a big carry box means that you will only fill it up with stuff you never use.

You should get a lot more kms out of the front tyre as it will only lightly touch the road surface. Conversely, you'll need to change the rear tyre twice as often with a top box that size.

I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

:)

no probs will happen like the post above :)

i like to sort stuff like that out prior to having fun,,,,,,

I am in the process of fabricating a custom plate that will click lock off the existing besteem plate, which in turn is locked off the original

everything is bump cushioned and no cracks will be showing unless i carry a plumber :)

the boxes can be changed in a couple of minutes if required, the big box is alittle fun

my old klr used to carry have the contents of the house n never missed a beat :)

the ST1100 has much better structural support

peeps just dun set em up properly  :runyay
