A week on the New England Nth West.
« on: May 13, 2014, 11:39:32 AM »
Just spent a week riding North West NSW along the New England a total of 1792ks clocked up and some fantastic scenery, left on 5 May the first day of a cold snap, 2 hours after leaving sunny Ipswich we found our selves at Stanthorpe and 4C... see below my Honda ST1100p and my friend David's new Kawasaki Versys 1000.

Stopped at Tenterfield first night in sleet and rain, spent an hour or so at the railway museum

Always stop at the F111 crash site, weather was spooky too.

We camped 4 nights out of the 7 this is Warilada, NSW the friendliest town I have ever been to.

Welcome to Warialda -4C

Mt Kaputar national park great ride and plenty to see.

@ Sawn rocks lookout Kaputar ranges.

Bingarra NSW lunch..yum...love country pub food.

Copeton dam, NSW near Inverell local yobos ready to pounce on my burger.

Had enough of the tent Copeton dam cabins.

Ebor, NSW roadhouse...strange and worth the stop...

And finally on the home stretch after an overnight in Grafton then run to Casino and Kyogle @ Flavours Café, Boonah, Qld for scones jam and cream..plus flat white one sugar Thanks...

We had a ball even though is was cold but with all the right gear we were never cold on the bikes, next trip is definitely north for the next few months!.

Mikan13 signing off for now

Well done lads.....look what happens when you leave the back gate open, ppl just ride on through  :nahnah

The other F1-11 crash site is about 4k's from our front door.....this one came down in 1992, both airmen lost their lives.

Some great pics,  :-++

Thanks for great pix of a worthwhile ride.  Lots of great little towns around Oz.  Autumn was the best time to see the New England ones.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Thanks ST2UP I had no idea the RAAF lost 2 F111's in the New England range, well that's for the next trip.

There is a small monument to the Airmen outside the council chambers.....but the crash site and on-site monument is on grazing land on private property, but owner happy for me to take visitors in.....can get within a 100 metres even on a ST in the dry.  :thumbsup

Here's a brief spiel about the incident
