23

G'day STriders,

Here is one of my favourite pastimes. The number 23. I have two other fave numbers: 8 and 13 but they are linked to my old footy days when I was a first grade lock forward in rugby league and in the old days the lock was number 8 as in Johny Raper and Ron Coote and then later it was 13. Of course, the number 13 is now important to me coz of my beautiful STeed but that's another story...(thank god I hear u saying).

My fascination with the number 23 was reinforced by the movie "The Number 23" starring the brilliant but erratic Jim Carrey (he was in a horrible porno film that blew me away with it's sleaziness and yet he was so amazing in "... Lemony Snicket"). The 23 movie had a number of incorrect facts but 99% were factually true and if u have't seen it then here's the trailer:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=kp&v=4ElUBr6-GLU

My fascination with 23 started with the only new car I have ever bought - a Mazda 323. It was a disaster with an incompetent salesperson that sold me a car with 4 gears instead of the promised 5 and when I took it for it's first service the genius mechanics forgot to re-tighten the valve rockers and nearly wrecked the engine. I was only 19 in those days and didn't know how consumer law worked and they got away with this crap with no compensation. That was my first experience with the number 23.
B4 I go on please understand that none of this discourse is serious. The number 23 is not important. I am only bringing this to your attention coz I like our STupendous forum and I'm thinking that many of our members will find this entertaining.
However I cannot help but notice 23 everywhere. My family groans when I point out another 23 in the news or in the papers. My house number is 23A. My children have 23 chromosomes from each parent. The planet Earth is tilted on it's axis by an average of 23 degrees. The most comfortable temperature regardless of the time of year whether it's on land or in the water is 23 degrees... Etc...etc.
Now that I have infected u with the 23 virus just u wait - u will start noticing it 2. Sorry.  :hatwave

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

When I was with that Firey mob the last 2 digits of my mobile was 23, the rego of my dad's car ended in 223

My eldest son was born when I was 23, my locker number at high school was 23, the keyboard of my laptop has a 23 on it. Every time I get 2 dozen eggs there's at least 23,

And so it goes, on and on and on.........

Well I come close with the 69 with being born under Cancer or 69 on its side as being the symbol for the crab.

I prefer 13 as it is not only the devils number but also equates to the opposite with Jesus and his 12 followers so it is both a lucky and a lucky number.
