G'day
« on: July 01, 2014, 04:31:00 PM »
Hi there. New to the ST1100, new to this site, but not new to motorcycling. Just bought a '00 ST from Tasmania, a maroon one, and am starting to learn quite a bit about them, thanks to this site. The main thing I have found is, that suffering from "ducks disease" as I do, I find my toes are only touching the ground when I stop. But I notice that a few other people have this problem as well. I am learning  to give the bike a slight left flick as I stop, thus at least I can get my right foot flat on the ground. This bike is the heaviest I have owned, and the first cruiser.

Anyway, I must say this is a great community, and look forward to having all my problems solved, well, maybe not all.................

Welcome creeture3. Let's not get off on the wrong foot.  :rofl  Pun intended.
The ST is no cruiser my friend. Officially known as a Sports Tourer.  :rockon
They are a heavy beast but that's one of the characteristics that give it such a great ride at speed.
Others will be along to welcome you shortly. Meanwhile, pour yourself a drink and grab a seat.
Getting wind in my hair while I still have some.

Welcome to the fray.  There's info in here about Russian leg extensions and Australian seat modifications.  Take your pick.

(I made up the bit about leg extensions- but they are on another website).   :grin
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Yep, sorry 'bout that  :-[ (hence the label "ST") but since most of my bikes have been sorta sporty, this just feels BIG  :o although the wheelbase couldn't be much longer than my GPz900R (current). Other rides over the past  mumble years have been : CB350, Yamaha TX500, Moto Guzzi Le Mans 850, Honda CB750 just to name a few.
