« on: July 31, 2014, 02:53:20 PM »

Beautiful looking bike, well farkled.  You might need to adjust your expectations on price, but as these become harder to find people will pay more money for low mileage ones like this.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Sorry to hear you can no longer ride John. I was only thinking of contacting you the other week to connect up for a ride. I've seen your ST and it is immaculate in appearance and upkeep. Keep in mind tho that until enthusiasts get past the slanging that dealers are throwing at the "old fashioned" ST's, until the enthusiasts again realise the superb design of these bikes, the prices will be unreasonably low - just look at the 2004 Blue ST with cruise control and tow bar and custom seats bought for a mere $7500 from a dealer!

So it might take a while to sell at that price m8 - not that it's not worth it!

Thanks guys, I know the uncertainty with St1300 prices at the moment and all I can do is put it out there and see what happens. My philosophy has always been that I am prepared to pay top dollar or above market value for a quality item, which is what I did last year when I bought the ST. Unfortunately not many people think along those lines and when you try and turn something over in the short term which has been purchased using this philosophy, as I am doing now, you generally suffer the consequences and get a bit burnt.

John,

Looks like a nicely set-up ST1300, good luck with the sale.

Keep in mind, if prospective buyers are trying to screw you too much on price, you can always, (ie. if you are inclined to do so) strip some of the extras.  There are some items I (and I'm sure many others) would be interested in, eg:

Genuine Honda Top Box - I've got one of those
Removable Internal Pannier/Carry Bags - need them
Metcruz Custom seats with woolen seat covers/very comfortable - don't need them
Uniden UH015SX CB with scanner function/Police Scanner/Push to speak/connected to Autocom system - don't think I need this
Autocom Rider Pillion Communication System - or this
Oxford Heated Grips - or these
Fender Extenda - or this
Digital gear indicator - got one
Throttle Lock - that would be handy
GPS Mounting Bracket - this too
GPS external aerial (suitable for Garmin Quest or Zumo500) - what does this do?
HRC Carbon Tank Protector - no
Trailer wiring with Anderson plug (Tow bar has been removed and bike has only towed once prior to my ownership) - don't need the plug, already got your tow bar (much better than the Classic).

Anyway, just saying.

Cheers,  Michael

Thats a great looking bike JWM and it will sell eventually.

I don't know how long I've had my latest ST1300 now (probably about 6 months), and a lot of the same bikes I saw for sale then are still for sale now ? (Maybe that says something about the asking price still on those bikes)

The one I finally brought was a 04 model that had done 13,000k's. The only non standard accessory it had fitted was electronic cruise control. It was the cruise control that made the bike stand out because I knew it was a $1000 + accessory and something I would use.

Accessories are a personal thing. As a rider I would have no interest in the other electronic gadgets that are fitted to your bike, so they wouldn't add value to the bike for a person like myself.

The bike I brought was first advertised for around $12,500 and I eventually brought it off the original owner for $10,000. (But it needed new tyres, the rego was due and one of the front fork seals was leaking when I brought it). So it was an $11,500 bike by the time I put the new tyres on it, paid the rego and had the fork seals done.

I would have been happy to pay around the same price ($11,500) or a bit more for a bike like yours, so your asking price is about right I reckon. So good luck with the sale and I hope it goes to another club member.

This is a frustrating process, I've had no lookers and only one (sight unseen) offer since the bike went on the market. The bike is now down to $11700.00 and still there is nothing. Maybe it's my location away from a major city centre? Who Knows.

Might have to get the thing out of the garage and start riding it again, cause I sure as hell aren't going to gift wrap it and give it away. :well :well :well

Sold Sold Sold Sold Sold.

Been a long process but the bike has finally been sold and the new owner rode the bike away this morning. He is a lovely guy and is absolutely delighted with the bike and it's condition. His name is Stuart and I have given him the details of the OZSTOC and FarRiders websites. Where is it off to? Believe it or not he rang me from Perth on New years Eve, flew over to Sydney yesterday, stayed with us last night and started his ride back home to Perth this morning. Yep, I must admit that I'm still shaking my head about the circumstances  but that's how it played out. So if you see him on the road in the next couple of days, give him a big OZSTOC hello and welcome.

I must admit that it was a sad moment seeing the bike ride away and realising that for the first time in 22 years that there is no bike in the garage. Now I just have to wait and see how I cope with that situation. This getting old with it's list of ailments  is a bitch.

Well, I am glad the bike has moved on for you and that it has a good home in WA.  I think I will have mixed emotions as well when it comes time to not having a bike.  :crazy

Well done John, your perseverance paid off coz the right buyer kept looking until he found what he was after - an avant garde red dragon wannabe? (Maybe not)

U never know, your health problems could b fixed by a new wonder procedure and you'll b climbing aboard another STeed 1 day not so far away. Best of luck, not so old son!

By some coincidence, I was considering calling u 2day coz my daughter is visiting a friend at Callala Bay next Wednesday and I offered 2 take her there on Wyvern and go for a run if u were feeling up 2 it. Never mind tho coz Danika said she needs the time on the train to catch up on study 4 her HSC.

What about those WesTralians - don't they luv their motorsikels! Won't b long b4 the ozSTOC AGM is over there every 4 out of 5 years.
