Streak & Diesel Ride again!! (and OzSTOC Jacket Test)
« on: August 18, 2014, 08:05:58 PM »
Well Here we are again, Streak and Deisel going for a ride....how strange!

this one had a few twists turns and changes.....

Our orginal plan was to ride from Toowoomba to the Blue mountains on saturday, stay in little hartley, get a photo at the 1st national rally site in blackheath, attend the Wentworth RTE Show off the OzSTOC Jacket to the attendees and ride the putty road and arrive back home on monday, a nice and relaxed 1900km...but mother nature forced us to drop riding Saturday.

so we made a rough plan to speak 7am Sunday Morning and meet at Yarraman at 9am and take it from there.

so i bounced up 6.30am, made coffee, and waited to ring diesel at 7am, i looked outside, murky overcast and crappy, quick check of weather in biloea SUNNY! so i rang deisel, who i woke up, as he had looked outside and gone back to sleep, he said what does the weather look like? i lied through my teeth and said SUNNY! so away we went

i landed in Yarraman about 8.50am, waiting for Diesel, waiting for diesel

phone rings "have two coffees, i am running late"

so i stopped at the Water Inn Cafe as a local assured me "good coffee there", unfortunately, it was a press button machine....

and presto look what appears!

so it was a average coffee and a good laugh and we are on our way, with a rough plan of riding northish until we are sick of it....

(this next part is very important to diesel and streak going riding so do not judge)

as we headed towards Kingaroy we came upon the Lavender Farm, which is a place that dispenses gifts to the givers of leave passes, and makes top boxes smell like we arrange flowers in them!

so wallets lighter, and bikes smelling prettier of we went

of course in Kingaroy, we had to find out nuts!

and i found another use for the bluetooth communication, while diesel was asking the young lady for what sort of nuts he wanted, i realized we where still hooked up, so i set out describing a series of comments and questions that he should ask the young lass (i cannot repeat them here, well above the G rating).....

so it was a casual run up to gayndah for lunch

now the next 350km cannot be shown due to the fact we like to still be riding, lets just say, we had alot of fun!

If anyone wants a great stretch of road the Mount Perry road from Eidsvold to Gin Gin is excellent, we saw 1 car the whole way and where able to really open the bikes up and enjoy every corner!

Diesel showed me this little tourist gem, the BoolBoonda Tunnel, 192 meters of hand carved tunnel, unlined and unsupported, just imagine the work that would have had to go into something this

We lit it up with our LED driving lights to give you all and idea of what they had to do

so after a couple of wrong turns from to much talking, we landed at the Bucca Hotel!

and after booking in to our campsite (which was $5, and $2.50 for the shower), we decided beverage first, unpack second

We have been working our camp setups as we are trying to create a cost effective throw together kit that means if we get a leave pass we can go, so at the moment we are experimenting with bike swags.

and it was a tough spot our $5.00 camp site, we had a brilliant sunset, and everything was setup and ready in about 15 minutes

Then it was show time! the main part of the trip was to review the OzSTOC Custom Jacket, so with my trusty cameraman and makeup artist we have put together an 8 minute review of the jacket which i am going to load to youtube and email around to everyone, screen shots of us in action....apologies in advance we are no RevZilla!

So after that was done, we decided it was dinner and rum time as the light had faded and so had we, exhausted from all our movie star work!

Dinner was Beef Stockpot with fresh bread rolls, complemented with a fine rum and cola aged perfectly!

I cooked dinner, as last time, we did this we should have thrown the food in the bushes and eaten the cans, but we got it right this time. Yes Growly you where right!!

After much bad story trading and laughs, we ran out of rum, and the pub had closed so it was time to crawl into the Big swags for a nice restful sleep.....oh how wrong we were....

Streak and Diesel have realized that we are just not bike swag people, after much tossing, grunting, turning, occasional sleep, and not being able to simply hop up to go to the loo, or just roll over without feeling like your in the land of the mole men, was not our idea of rest and a good sleep, the other frustration was that we cant really put anything in them with us, in a tent you can put clothes, boots, helmet that sort of thing and have room to spare.

We where up at 6am looking VERY bleary, and more the wiser of our camping experiment.  Diesel emerging from the cocoon certainly had be me laughing (we are doing this for the experience not just comfort, mind you two strong coffee's certainly improved our humour)

So after a very damp and slow packup with two grumbling people about huw much horse manure this was, we headed for childers where Diesel told me of this glory place, that served real coffee and had wonderful things like bacon and scrambled eggs, needless to say....i was keen!

it was a pretty casual run down to Childers (sad the only reason i remember the place was becuase of the backpackers that burned down)

and there it was.....Kape Centro, land of breakfast and wonderment!

and also Diesel unrolling his swag on the sidewalk for a camp, (just repacking it)

Then Breakfast arrived

Needless to say, i was very happy....the lack of sleep was forgotten!

it was saddle up time and head for home with the run down to Nanango and a wave goodbye at Yarraman

All in all, a nice 1,000km for the 2 days, the OzSTOC Jacket performed really well (Stay Tuned for the video), and impressed us both.

If anyone wants to buy a near new used twice bike swags i know 2 that are for sale, we are going back to tents!

Total Trip Spend for the two days was $170, that was counting the $30 at the gifts for wives place, pretty happy with that.

Great story.
Never cease to wonder about the detail you manage to pack in about what you eat and drink!    :grin
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Nice report and I agree with your comments on the bike swags. They are a bit restrictive but on a cool night in the Snowy Mts. they
are very cosey.

Now, THAT'S the type of trip that I enjoy.  ++ ++ Good story!

I found out a long time ago that swags are not exactly the bees knees for bike travels after waking one morning and discovering wet gloves and jacket, and an inch of water inside my boots, and as a consequence I have used a small dome tent, a self inflating mattress, and a full sleeping bag ever since.

April 2014 trip from Portland to Morgan on the Murray, I scored a free 22 Kg bucket of candied honey.
It fitted inside the top box, but I couldn't fully close the lid, so I whizzed a bungee strap over it.
That left me with just one bungee cord to secure the mattress and sleeping bag.
Somewhere on the Sturt Highway after Blanchetown, due to the air buffeting from a semi I was following, the two items parted company with the bike but I was unaware they had gone until I reached Murray Bridge.
Hopefully they found an appreciative home.

Have a new sleeping bag, but have not as yet replaced the mattress.
