« on: August 30, 2014, 09:11:03 AM »
What is everyone doing to Prepare for the OzSTOC IBA1600 ride in October?

as well as getting in some good riding day and night, i have been going to the gym 4 days a week to up my fitness and stamina for longer stints in the saddle.

it has been really good actually into my 3rd week, and i have dropped a shirt size and lost 4kg  :thumb

I've just fitted some new PR3s, so the bike is now ready.    I plan on doing a couple more 1,000km days, just to test myself, and might get a camelback in case we get some warm weather.  Other than that, Bring it On.

Start and finish was less then 1 kilometre from the motorway.
McCruise made it a lot easier though.

I did a bit of Slab Training today (1022 km down and up the highway)

06:15 Start - Left home from Strathpine

06:30 North Lakes Fuel up - (8mins)

09:03 Fuel & Bite to Eat (13mins)

11:52 Urunga - Bite to eat (30 min)

PHOTO OP (1min)

14:04 Fuel Up (4mins)

To make the total distance a bit over 1000kms I bypassed home and went up to Steve Irwin Way then looped down through Caboolture and back onto the highway.

18:29 Finish - Strathpine (Total time 12hrs 14mins - 1022kms)

http://goo.gl/maps/HGOgw

All in all I would have loved to have done this on a Russel Day Long :eek :spank But I'll be ok :thumbsup

And as an added bonus I got a new record for nods and/or waves from other riders...  :hatwave   84     :eek :grin

Cheers

:fp That's why I get Streak to lead :whistle

I Originally was heading to Macksville NSW for the turn around but when I saw the Cafe I thought of all the recommendations the guys gave it and thought, stuff it I'll make this the turn around and I'll head north a bit to make up some extra distance. (I had thought the cafe was in Nambucca Hds :fp)

Anyhoo the original post has been fixed, good spotting :thumbs

And thanks for the kind words everyone :-++
I have discovered that I can do some fair distance when I really try :blu13 but that last stretch (just shy of 400kms :eek) was a bit much :spank I think it would have been better to take another break in the middle of it :think1 :think1 Oh well that's why I was doing the ride, to see how I can handle the distance/time :thumbsup

Thanks again guys :hatwave

Cheers

I think I must have done some preparation in the ride back from Queensland. Came back 1150kms in a bit less than 11 hours, doing a few 450km non-stop runs to replicate the 1600 plan. Seemed to work ok, but it does feel good when you stop!

Hey Saaz,  well done on getting the 450k legs done!!!!!  :-++

I'm not interpreting the SS1600k plan as 450ks between stops, that's just the distance between fuel dockets.  There's nothing wrong with pulling into a rest area, walking around the bike five times, having a drink and/or a muesli bar or "relieving the pressure" of the ride. It just needs to be efficient. Discomfort adds to fatigue and stress. Sometimes it can't be resolved later in the ride, but if it can it should be.  Feel good more often!
Having said that, of you can go a few back to back 450k legs then a 50CC is a snack.

Quite true. If I had been going further some in between stops would have been necessary. In between the fuel stops I just plan on hitting some way points as a mental thing, rather than think about the whole distance or next fuel stop. Makes it just a series of small achievements rather than a hard slog to the end.

My run to Airlie beach was my prep so far.  I rode from Rocky to Airlie non-stop (480 km) , and would have done the return trip non-stop except a :cop had other plans.

Coming back from Rocky I attempted to go as far as possible without stopping.  I got to just south of Gunalda at Curra  (449 km) stopped for wet weather pants and kept going until it ran out at 565 km.

In total 2200 km from 7:30 Friday to 2:30 pm Sunday.

I'm thinking I can do the 1600 in 4 stops.  But if necessary on the day, I'll break it up if I have to.

Little milestones helped me.  Constantly working out the maths in my head to work out approximate arrivals to the next milestone kept me thinking.

I'm hoping having CB to chat to others along the way doing the same thing will help.
Cheers,
Gary

A CB is useful when outside Bluetooth range, and for just scanning to see what is going on. But the closer you get to Sydney, the more all the idiots are on wasting airspace - most days it makes the road channel (40 for the Hume, 29 on the pacific Highway seems better) useless for finding out traffic etc etc until you get outside Sydney. Melbourne was no different, but I did not have the CB on around Brisbane to see if it is the same.  If we pick a channel for ourselves should be ok.  The off button is very useful!

It's pretty hopeless around Brisbane on 40.  Potty-mouthed van drivers never shut up.
I think we're settled on 13 for starters.  Correct me if another channel has been decided.  My experience has been 13 is mainly used by riders.

good bit of training Shiney, if you kept that average up your ride for the OzSTOC 1600k would be around 19 hours

Saaz if you kept your average up you would do the same ride in about 15 and a half hours   ;-*
