Customized ST1300
« on: September 30, 2014, 12:12:32 PM »
The owner of this ex-police ST1300, which was for sale on Gumtree, has customized it to give it a CTX1300 look and feel.   Since it was such an interesting bike, I asked him if it was OK to post some information about his modifications on the OzSTOC site, and he's happy for that to go ahead.  Ian then sent me some extra photos of the footpeg  and linkage modifications.
Modifications and changes have included:
   Hyperpro rear spring
   Footpeg and controls moved forward
   Tip over bars removed
   Seat modified
Heat shields fitted to the exhausts
   Middle cowl cut back
Coolant reservoir moved to behind the seat
Handlebars on 6" swept back risers

Here's some quotes from his advert and from our communications, providing a little extra information.

The  “.... CTX1300 style mid foot controls which can be easily reverted to standard rear position foot controls”.

The seat was modified by slicing off the foam with an electric carving knife from the pommel back and then vertically at the back and reupholstering in two pieces.”

“The coolant reservoir is under the cover behind the seat. “

“......the changed handlebars which are a single swept back bar mounted on 6" swept back risers mounted on 6mm bar cutouts to marry up with the standard risers also the rubber mounts are made solid by clamping them with thick machine washers that fit over the inner steel tube in the rubber bushes.”

Clever use of turnbuckles on the brake and peg extension.
It's good for an enthusiast to modify his bike using these skills.
But I suspect it makes it a bit harder to sell, since it's now uniquely built to one person's likes.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
