Mirrors
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:53:53 PM »
Can anyone tell me if the mounting of the mirrors on the 1100's and 1300's differ greatly.
My friendly policeman has found two of the mirror mounts for lights.
But off an 1100.
Should I get excited and rip my mirrors off or will some knowledgeable person here shatter my dream.

According to Part Numbers the may be different.

Here is a link to the ST1300 police upper cowel on a US Honda site. Items 11 and 12 plus bolts 22 and 23.

They might fit, but I think there is a subtle difference.

Ta for the link.
Went for a web wander and it seems the only difference is the length of the retaining bolts.
ST100 has 65 and 45 while the 1300 is saying 50/40.
Now I just gotta work up to pulling the housing off.  usually leave this to the experts.

Mirror housing comes off with a good bump of the hand, or go lane splitting and clip a car mirror or two and they pop off easily (dont ask how I know.   :grin :grin)

Brock, my problem is I can pull anything apart.
difficult bit is getting it ti go back together again.
Now an important thought.
The friendly traffic cop on his ST said yesterday that the workshop had just dumped a whole lot of ST100 bits.
Everyone who knows a policeman should be asking him to check and see what relics are lying around. Cheap spare parts must still be hiding in some of their workshops.
Been abt three/four years since the Qld police shifted off ST's and he managed to find these bits so who knows what else might be left.

I hope all those spare parts go to someone who will sell them at a good price, or for free..

Don't worry about asking any Qld coppers for them people, I got the last two sets about 18 months ago, and yes Saaz I gave one set to another member here for the correct price. :cop

And before anybody asks the other set are firmly attached to my bike with spotlights attached and aren't for sale/give away.  :grin

Now that is a bit of gear. After fitting the single mirror up high on my bike I still think this is the way to go. Just so easy and you don't even have to move your head. That dipping of the head to see out of the mirrors just sucks. Heres a Link to buy the Riderscan: http://www.huntercreate.com/shop/riderscan
This is just the best

Tackleberry there are still bits lying around the workshops.
Mine were found in Bris while Mr Helpful was down getting his new shiny ST serviced.
Few of the traffic branch have ST's so I imagine there wil be a little stash just for them.

The 1100 mirror light brackets that carried the police red and blues fit on the 1300 with just a minor modification.
Had to cut a little bit of plastic off the edge of the surround because of the forward bend in the tube touched just enough to stop the clips engaging.
Now they are on the fun really begins. What sort of light to fit?
So many lights so little knowledge.

I will experiment with taping up the middle to correct this issue

There is quite a lot of distortion, you end up looking like you have popeye's arms.   :rofl :rofl

Glad there are mate.  I was told by Brissie that they had no more when I grabbed mine.  That's why I grabbed the two pair because they were allegedly the last.  The Sgt that was in charge of bikes for years has just retired so they might be finding some old stashed items he had forgotten about. :rofl

If that seargents the same one that helped me out with a couple of sets of brackets at Ennogra, he's a great bloke. But he really hated those BMW's they ride now, as he told me for no reason they just seem to stop :think1

Seems that the beemers had a little problem with cooling.
Was told a couple of times that since they were left idling for extended periods while the riders went abt their job that the right hand pots kept overheating.
Caused quite a few of them to be stripped down and replaced.

Any of the SE qlders know where there is a shop that actually stocks  things like spotlights and fog lights.
Been ruminating through the web and the choices are multiple but want to see the product before purchasing.
Down on the coast here the choice is very limited.
Got these nice black mounts and now they need filling.
Registered for one of them "far" things which is gonna involve a bit of night work at the end of the month.

Not sure where in QLD you are but Supercheap should near you somewhere.

http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/store-locator/state/Queensland.aspx

and Autopro as well

http://autopro.com.au/stores/qld.html

I got my driving lights for my bike from the Karratha, WA branch of Autopro.

I would not go for the supercheap brand, but go for something like a narva light. The compac 100s I bought are pretty good even with the original 55w halogen bulbs, as were the compac 80s which are oval but do take up a bit less space.  Both add that extra distance for night riding.  The compac 100s are far easier to convert to HID later down the track if that is a consideration.
