Having a serious think on this one... might ride up the day before, stay o'night Murray Bridge so I am nice and fresh when I arrive at Swan Reach. Saves an early cold start, and its only a six - seven hour run home for the day.
Ppopeye, any road from Melbourne to Swan Reach involves many kilometers of open flat mallee country once you hit SA. I've ridden Ouyen, Pinaroo, Tailem Bend road many times, and it's simply a transport section. Heading west from Paruna is the same. Loxton to Swan Reach, does give you a look at the Murray at Loxton, but to get to Lonxton, again there is many kilometers of flat mallee country. My choice would be straight across the main highway to Adelaide and then turn off at Murray Bridge and go via Mannum, across the ferry to Bow Hill and on to Swan Reach. The route on the attached link is probably the most interesting and scenic. https://goo.gl/maps/rK8A4
Thats much as I thougt. I have a daughter in Bendigo and thought I might break the trip and try a different way. I dont mind the mallee country, and I think I hate trucks more than straight roads. We will see. Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately nearly all the trips this year are open country more than hills. (Eg Swan Reach, Balranald, silverton. Perhaps Ill have to go to Silverton via the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa )

Not a bad little park and easy trip over on Saturday ( Although Swan Reach is a little further from Bordertown than Mannum.I am now looking to do this one as the weekend for Tungamah(Vic) is now double booked, as long as there are no blizzards predicted. Might go via Bendigo and either Pinnaroo or Mildura. Can any locals suggest the best or most interesting way. (not via Broken Hill though)
