I did see some stuff with planes, but that was after my attention was drawn to the bare chested boys in their stubbies  :popcorn

long sleeved clothes,
ear protection,
eye protection,
high vis vests,
and work frames....

They had hearing protection, and maybe sunnies for the eyes. We didnt need the other stuff.

Not unusual to get sprayed with avtur when doing refueling (manual with fuel gun into a port on top of the fuselage

Back then anybody wearing safety gear was thought of as a 'sissy'. Probably why I have to turn the telly up so loud now?

I didn't think they would spool them up off just a battery cart.

Not just a battery cart, it was a 115V 3phase 400Hz power cart, though they can/could start off their internal battery.

OH&S was different back then, but hearing protetion was worn.

When on joint exercises, the Yanks could get their head around the seemingly casual attitude
