Getting the fairing off isn't too hard. You need to keep track of which fastener came from where. There's a template on the Forum you can use to help with that.
Getting it back on is the tricky bit!

Here's an OzSTOC thread with links to two useful sites for you. http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=13.0 One is a pictorial guide on getting the tupperware off the bike, and the other helps with what fastners go where on the bodywork. Post to find an OzSTOC person in your district who's done it before, and I'm sure they will give you a hand.

Working all weekend but I'm glad to know you don't mind me paying you a visit at some point.
The first thing I need to sort out is this bloody knock sensor error or the worry is going to ruin this bike for me!
I'm glad there are a lot of folks here keen to lend me some helpful advice. Cheers :)

But I finish my rotation on Saturday morning, so the other guys will have to keep everyone safe without me for the rest of the event

So it turns out I have Monday and Tuesday off. If I venture up your way I'll let you know.
No FI light to or from work today. 30 minutes both ways. First day the light hasn't lit since i bought it....weird.

As far as the screen and wind buffet I moved my screen forward about 20mm greatly reducing buffeting

You might have accidentally reset it.
If you shut down completely and then restart, it will often reset the FI light.

It's popped up a couple of times since. It's on the to do list but it's not at the top of the priorities list. New forks going on tomorrow :D Now for sale at a little under 6 grand with rwc and long rego but not so motivated to sell now that the issues are being ironed out. Looking forward to a few decent rides!

My FI light used to intermittently come on with a code I can't remember, I cleaned the 5 way connector to the Map Sensor (under the air filter box) and it hasn't played up since.

Thanks gary I'll check it out though I reckon I will replace the sub harness anyway because the knock sensor wire purportedly throwing the code is visibly heat damaged as many people with this issue claim. Cheap part, might as well fix it. Just not looking forward to having to take the covers off for the first time! Might need to bribe some folks with beers to give us a hand. :P

Just be careful and methodical. Putting the biggest cowl back on is a handful, getting all the bits to interlock properly.
As mentioned, be systematic with the fastener management. The printable templates are a big time saver.

Hey there Bikebugger,
welcome to the forum. I bought a 1998 model ST1100 with 150,000 (had a timing belt changed at 148,000). It purrs along just fine, so not sure about the rest of the bike, but the engine will keep going foreeevvveeeerrrr.

I'm on the tweed coast so if you're looking for a riding buddy let me know. I work overseas so I'm not here all the time but when I'm here I'm always keen for a ride.

Welcome Cam, my 2002 model only has 36k on the clock... But it would be rare to find a bike of that vintage hasn't had at least one prang... There is a group on Facebook called Australian Motorcycle Photography if you're interested in photography and motorcycling, a friendly bunch as well... All the faults can be fixed, the knock sensor will only be the wiring lume.... Keep it upright !! Cheers, Sass

Welcome Cam from SA. A local dealer here in Adelaide had an '03 FJR1300 going for $3900 when I was looking for my bike a few months ago. It had 230k on it but looked OK in the ad but with all those Ks, I didn't feel brave enough to take the chance, so I take my hat off to you. I ended up buying my '96 ST1100 with 101k on it and haven't looked back but I still wonder how that cheap FJR is going (sold, by the way).
