what does the Pan mean?

Silly question but what does the PAN in Pan European mean when refering to the ST?

what models does it refer too or does it refer to the ST's in general?

The 1100 was designed by Honda in Germany and originally aimed as a light weight tourer for the European market. Hence the name Pan (Across) European. Being built for Europe also means it's designed for their much higher speed limits and will sit on a 180 k/h (autobahn use) all day and another reason for the 28 litre tank

The Pan was sold in the US, Canada and Australia as the ST1100 and Honda Australia classified it as a Sport Tourer instead of a tourer.
The 1300s carried over the names for their respective markets but were Japanese designed.

The 'Pan' in Pan European means the ST has the reliability to 'cross' the European continent.
'Pan' is closely related to the word 'Span', ie, across. As far as what models it applies 2, they all r sold in Europe - very few get here coz of the expensive shipping. I don't think anyone in ozSTOC has a pan euro decalled STeed but maybe there is?

My beaut bike 'Wyvern' the dragon has a top box with a 'Pan European' badge so I have been looking for a Pan European badge to go on the front fairings coz my STeed is one of those rare ones that doesn't have a 'ST1300' decal on the fairing. Wyvern told me that he would prefer a Pan European badge. Unfortunately, the badge costs 2 much - like about $50 a pair plus shipping on the non-genuine copy market. So I'm thinking that just maybe the local STealership might b able to get a cupla genuine PE badges 4 a better price but that's just dreamin' ain't it?

Poppy Dave has Pan badges on his bike, but he ordered them and fitted them himself.

Cos my ST1100 50th anniversary has Pan European stickers on it and if that's the case, how cool is my bike???

Your pan European badged bike is no-doubt cool Panman albeit rather rare. I was wondering and maybe even speculating how many pans there r in Oz.

Wyvern (my red dragon 1300) wants a European birth certificate tho. So I might have to buy him 1 via a badge n then he might stop badgering me!  |-i


BTW Wyvern has been to the OptomoDragonist and needs new glasses. No fotos yet but comin' soon!

They may have been fitted by a previous owner as not even the ST1100 was ever fitted in that position for Australia but for US and Canada only

Hopefully I have attached a couple of pics for you to see as mine has stickers on the front fairings and the side panniers which look genuine plus when I bought the bike I got a couple of stainless steel badges which are not fitted and I am not sure where they would have gone.

Nah that's a manual lock but works a treat, plus never thought heated grips would have value but bugger me they do don't they...

Trying to attach the pic of the stainless badges but the file was too big. See if this works.

Come on Biggles you can't just add words like "out" to my sentences..
It's a manual lock, you know like my old cars, no magic key you have to push it down to lock it in place.
