Can rule out a 50CC as he would have had to go right into Newcastle or Byron.

I just did the Streetview walk-through of Terowie, SA, since Lionel was just through there. 
They had two newspaper publishers in their heyday.

We don't have a Transcontinental in Oz if it is an IBA ride.  We do have the Trans Australia and Trans Australia Insanity (the insanity part is the return run) which is the eastern most and western most parts of OZ   If it is an IBA run from PA to Darwin it is more than likely the Centreline 36 or Centreline 24

He pulled up in Dubbo after an epic BB25Gold with 6 minutes to spare.  OA 105.  Pretty tough dude!

Thanks TJ, for clarifying the names of the big Aussie IBA rides for me.   I couldn't see them on the IBA site and was probably looking in the wrong place.

Pete, there is an interesting story behind the Trans Australia and Insanity version, the ride being established by Davo Jones.  Originally recognised by the IBA as a SS10000K.  Davo wrote about it as the "first transcontinental" crossing of Oz on a new Kawasaki that he was loaned by the company.  The story can be found here http://www.ironbutt.com/rides/Trans%20AustraliaDavo.htm it is worth the read.

In recognition of Davo and what he had done for the Long Distance Riding community here in Australia,  The name was changed from a SS10000K to the current title.

TJ, I read of Davo's ride across the continent in the Australian Road Rider when the story was first published.   I was enthralled with his adventurous spirit, tenacity and endurance, and read and re-read the account, savoring every word.   I exchanged a few e.mails with Davo regarding FarRiders, and what qualifies as a FarRide, and keenly followed his adventures.   I was inspired, and have since done lots of touring, both on my own and two-up,  and a couple of half laps with my mates.   My principal passion remains as motorcycle touring, but I'm inspired by by own IBA success and experience to do some more long distance riding, but perhaps not as frequently as some in the LD community.

This same thing happened to me Pete. I was set on a Blackbird and had my eye on one in Canberra.


Just prior to making viewing arrangements, I stumbled across Davo's story and agreed that I would rather see more of this country on two wheels, and that decision made the Blackbird obsolete for me, and the hunt began for a sports tourer. I checked out the 3 usual suspects, and was set on a ST1100 - until I found out about it's newer iteration, the 1300.


Davo was also the inspiration for me to join FarRiders and meet for lunch in a FarAway place. I hadn't realised he already passed at this stage, and it came as quite a shock to learn of his demise!            


Anyway - I don't regret a single minute of MC Touring - a great decision - because it is also the catalyst of how I met all you fine folk too.
