Looks like we in town at Portland, Vic, will be one of the last locations to actually connect to the NBN.
Outlying areas who only have a choice of sattelite at present (at lousy speeds) will be first in this area to go online.
Apparently, our exchange has been doing some testing of capabilities in the last week.
I am only 100 metres from the exchange, so I get very good speeds. Early hours of Monday morning, one of their tests
was being conducted, and I was lucky enough to be online.
... my download speed jumped from 2 Mb per second to over 30 Mb/ second! Constant speed, too!
In 90 minutes, I downloaded 29 movies, 160 Gb! ... it took a futher 4 hours for Telstra to jig onto the fact that I am now 130 Gb over my 200 Gb quota for this billing month, which resets on Friday night.

My Movie collection is now vast, with over 9 TerraBytes of entertainment, all ad free. My TV is now redundant, have not switched it on for more than 7 months!
I have a total storage space of 15 Tb.

Hahaha nice... I have my computer (HTPC) connected to my tv, and run Mediaportal to control all TV and movies all controlled by a Harmony remote

I just use plex to smart tv, media boxes and tablets / phones. Nice speed Kev.... pity they cottoned on.

I need to do live TV series recording which is why I moved away from plex, Mediaportal has it inbuilt with no need for third party apps.

Yeah I can't wait to get though speeds.

I just churned internet providers and am going with a bonded setup which doubles my adsl2 speeds

I'm somewhat disappointed with NBN, I've had wireless NBN connected for about the past 18 months and find my download speed varies all the time. I was originally connected to wireless ADSL and my download speed was always just over 12Mb sec, however once NBN was installed it dropped to 8Mb sec so I paid an extra $5 month to have it boosted and it then went up to 23.5Mb month, which I was pretty happy with, but I find it varies from minute to minute, for instance I just checked it 3 times, my download speeds were 17.61, 16.8, 12.6Mb sec.........upload speeds are usually pretty good, around 3.2 -3.6Mb sec.

It cost me nothing to have it installed so I guess that's my saving grace, and for an additional $5 month I do have faster speed, but it's nowhere as good as I hoped it would be !!!

I am sick on ADSL1 :-( No plans in foreseeable future for upgrade here.

We have ADSL2 and over the last week or two our modem has been playing up. It was only new in Feb last year so the ISP is sending out a replacement. During that time frame I ran a speed test and we get 1069Mbps Download and .75Mbps upload. I queried the ISP tech guy about this and for our distance from the exchange the speed is on par.

NBN......I looked at the prices and wireless is 25/5Mbps (250GB a month) and the only speed on offer but is still at double (in theory) to what I have now.
Fibre..... different speeds on offer but again 25/5 is the one I'd probably choose at $60 a month. (same price for our 100GB ADSL service)

By the time we get it (2016 it seems) the plans and price will no doubt change.

The bonus I guess comes with the phone as that will go VOIP for an extra $10 a month and all calls free except to mobiles (funny that) Current landline $40 a month with calls included.

We still don't have NBN though it went into Armidale ages ago...and sort of stopped not far along the track.

Ge round here 8GB is a big deal, 200 must mess with your head fooorrr sure.

Oh and they laid fibre optic cable from Bundara along the Gulf Creek rd turned right at the Fossickers Way and got as far as the exchange just beside Oakey Cr.
It a nice bit of cable that. Sticks through the wall from memory and connects to .................................

ah... when I am in the mood for more movies, I use 200 gig ADSL2 within 48 hours, and am slowed down for the rest of the month...

8 gig would barely cover my emails for 4 days!

I have unlimited upload and download for $70 per month on ADSL1. If it was ADSL2+ it would only cost me $50 per month. I also pay additional $5 per month for /30 subnet giving me 3 Internet (WAN) IP addresses. General download for me is a fraction over 600GB per month on average. Sometimes more depending on time of year ;-)

In the 4 years we've been with our ISP we've only exceeded the 100gb (2 desktops) allowance once and that was only because of backing up some files online..

A friend the other side of town was on 500 Gb per month, and regularly 'ran dry' a few days short of the month.

His teen son left home just before Christmas, moved to Melbourne to continue his Uni studies, and his father said that since he left, his online usage has now dropped to around 70 Gb per month...

I had a cable connection via Telstra and enjoyed really good speed and unlimited VOIP through Engin.

Then Engin was bought out by Channel 7 and the prices went up and up.

Telstra then informed me I had to upgrade my modem or lose my high speed, so I did for $350.00

Then I couldn't get my VOIP to work and after four weeks Telstra informed me that the new modem is designed to block VOIP as Telstra wants their customers to install land lines.

Finally Telstra started blocking all the sites I visited on a regular basis and "apparently" compiled a list and forwarded it to the feds on illegal downloaders.

I switched to ADSL with iinet and the service has been crap ever since.

My contract ends next month and I am thinking about starting my own internet....

On a positive note, Channel 7 just sold Engin to Eftel for a loss of $20,000,000

WOW we are on NBN satelite we get 10mb per month at a speed of .5 mbps yep you read it rite .5
when we go over it slows down can take 15 min to get on forum I then go to macas on Sat mornings have a coffee and check the shop emails look at photos and video that have been posted Telstra think maybe 2017 our exchange may be upgraded hell I can't wait mobile coverage is dodgy so wireless isn't crash hot either

10 Mb a month???? , you would use that in ten minutes. logging into FBook would do that in 2 min

I switched to Zeno.io. They are a new start up. Not as cheap as some but I like what they are doing. Especially the bonded setup

Your plan would be 10Gb wouldn't it, the only place I know that has 10mB is Thai airways inflight airways inflight wifi. I used that just logging on to the system, and then the credit card started to shrink

My sis in law lives on a cattle station up near Marla and their satellite feed isn't that flash either
