You don't think it has anything to do with those large price signs they all have to display? Servos are very aware of what prices other servos in town are charging.
If you owned a servo and the servo down the road increased their price by 10 c/L would you sell the increased volume at your 10 cent lower price or increase your price and improve your margin on your normal sales? Remember that the margin on a Litre of petrol is only measured in cents.
I think that on last Thursday afternoon, with Marcia aimed straight at Mackay, that BP increased their prices by over 10 c/L and I believe that the price fixing commission are investigating this. That other servo brands did not seem to follow doesn't disprove what I've written above, just proves that in this case some servo owners may have been aware of competitive practices regulations and/or had a moral compass.
