Helibars

Hi Everyone, I am looking at purchasing a Helibar raiser for my 2004 ST1300. I find that with my lower back injury from years ago that I am leaning slightly forward and after a long ride my back is throbbing with pain. I have looked at the different versions of Helibar's and would like some feed back on those that have tried and tested them. Also if anyone has a set up for sale. Looking forward to your comments. As well as the raisers, you might look at a back brace. There are a couple of the guys who use one.

Hi 2cavreg and welcome to OzSTOC from SA.   Lots of members have fitted risers, and some suggest that they are the best bike mod that they have made.  I have fitted a set of BikeQuip risers, and since using them I don't suffer from the crook neck and shoulders that I previously suffered from on the long hauls.

I've got the MCL ones from USA.  They incorporate a RAM mount that's ideal for your GPS.  They also come with a Powerlet outlet which I don't use, but suits some people.

I used the MCL (Motor Cycle Larry) on my first ST1300 then the Helibars on my current St1300 both good products that do the same job. The MCL are a bit bulkier, both came with Powerlet plug to power your phone or GPS 
They are great as they raise the bars 1 1/2" and back 2". It makes you sit up straighter and better for those long days in the saddle
Combined with a AirHawk or aftermarket seat (I have a Sargent seat) 1,000km or more are much easier to do

I have the helibar Gen 3 with power oultet and ram ball mount.
Very happy with them.

2cavreg have you thought about altering the seat on its stock fittings.
Many of us find the ST seat tilts you forward into the tank....seats nose down regardless in all three settings.

So pop the front in the top setting and push the rear of the seat onto the middle hight setting.
It mad all the difference for my back and others have commented similar improvements.

My bar risers came second hand from this site.
21/2 up and back which droped the elbows and took weight back off the wrists. All made for a better long ride though I do exercise and stretch regularly regardless while chewing up the miles.

A few of the members have asked me about my log in name of 2cavreg. It stands for 2nd Cavalry Regiment which I was member of in the 70's and we were base at Holsworthy in Sydney. I believe they are now in Townville. Thank you for the feed back on my query. I have adjusted the seat to the middle setting but I will try Gatey's suggestion out as well. As no one has a second hand unit for sale I will be ordering one from the States soon. Both the MCL and Helibar's do the same thing I will just surf the Net for the best price.   Hi All, Thanks to everyone for your comments in relation to whether I use MCL or Helibars. I ended up purchasing the Helibars and after I installed them I went for a 484 kilometre ride with my local Ulysses club and at the end of the day my lower back felt great. I also noticed that the bike is easier to handle in the corners. Very happy with my decision. Again thank you for your advise and keep the shine side up. Cheers Gordon
