p*****d off with Honda.
« on: March 10, 2015, 08:54:29 PM »
Am I the only one that's cheesed off with Honda for not being able to come up with a viable replacement for the ST1300? I have to say that I'd never be seen on a CTX1300. I consider it an unbearably ugly piece of design that panders to the naked brigade with no consideration given to the fact that touring motorcyclists are conservative and expect certain design features to be included in a touring motorcycle.
Even though I only climbed on my ST1100 a few months ago, and I expect to ride it for at least the next five years, looking beyond that my options appear limited.
I paid $3900 for my ST and it's a bargain because it has been well looked after and feels very tight for its Ks, it won't last forever and will reach a stage where I'll be looking to upgrade. There's every chance that that replacement will be an ST1300 but I have to confess that the Kawasaki and Yamaha options look attractive on paper so it may not be a foregone conclusion.
The fact that the ST1300 has reached end of life saddens me. I can't help but think that Honda have abandoned a loyal following for a thoroughly capable motorcycle and is trying to force its flawed design theory down our throats. End of rant! :OldMan

You are not the only one asking why.

There are threads here, in the US and UK on this very subject. No one seems to think that any of the "Replacements" come close. They may have a similar engine, but some are Uglier than sin, the engines have been detuned and fuel tank size reduced. Just what we all want of course

Yeah,  going home to NZ and I'll probably be looking up to a Goldwing or HD Ultra Glide or Road King as I want that sort of wrap around throne for the pillion princess.

Wouldn't be seen dead on the CTX1300, ugly piece of excrement!  Honda wouldn't have to use a new engine, the ST1300 engine (in the ST1300 tune) would be perfectly acceptable, just a redesign and addition of a few features like an electrically adjusted screen.  Need that 28 L or so tank though, I'm getting used to the 500 km range of the ST1100 and I'll think my throat is cut if I settle on a bike with less range.

Traction Control

Strange how the 1100A gets traction control but the 1300A didn't. Not that I've needed it.

Add better display.  The current one is pathetic.  The only item that can be read in any light is the fuel bar line.  Add a gear position indicator in the display to make it as good as the Feejer's.

ST13 is still being sold overseas, but I don't know when they were made.  I think Pete said all they need to do, and update the display in line with more modern bikes that give a lot more information choices. And perhaps put on some normal size wheels front and back so modern tyres sizes can be chosen.

The last ST13s had a plain black colour, before that there was a silver or gold spec option through the black (I am unsure of whether they were offered side by side or in different years).

and I cannot believe that a half-decent screen is an optional extra. I dread to ask the price of that little upgrade!

Wasn't there a black edition in 2012?

I was bidding on a black 2011 with 3000 odd k's on it today on Ebay.
According to the seller it was the last one sold in australia.
Maybe this is why he is chasing 18k for it (he offered a off of ebay deal)

Also sat on a CTX13 at slacks creek dealer today. Not impressed. The wings parked next to it were much nicer !!!

I recall seeing it offered previously.
Privately he has told me he will pull the auction if it does not reach "decent money".
It's a no reserve auction but what he's chasing is unrealistic i think brock.

...... According to the seller it was the last one sold in australia......

Well I know that's not true.  I bought my ST13 new in August 2013.

What's it worth is the question!   If he's asking $18K, it's probably more than he paid, if he got the discount.  In April 2013, he should have.

If, if, if ......... if in 2015 Honda were still selling the ST13, if the RRP was $24,990 (I think that was the last RRP), if top box $1K (same $ as mine), on-road costs around $1K, this would place a new ST13 at around $27K.t    I'm not sure everyone would be too worried about paying $18K for this unit with 3,000km - IMHO.

"" I consider it an unbearably ugly piece of design that panders to the naked brigade""
Its hardley a naked bike.

""with no consideration given to the fact that touring motorcyclists are conservative" That's presumptuous not factual "and expect certain design features to be included in a touring motorcycle"yes we do expect some features to be pretty normal across the board but how they are put together is what makes differences...or we could all ride bland sameness.

"" Even though I only climbed on my ST1100 a few months ago, and I expect to ride it for at least the next five years, looking beyond that my options appear limited"" Your not looking to hard then and none of u has a crystal ball so we have no idea what's around the corner.

""I paid $3900 for my ST and it's a bargain because it has been well looked after and feels very tight for its Ks, it won't last forever and will reach a stage where I'll be looking to upgrade. I'm also baffled at the "replacement St" NOT. I must admit I was a little $&(@/:; off that Handa would even release into the public such a poor substitute. The ST is on the money for me and Ill hang onto it until Honda realize the CTX is not even close as an upgrade.

Saw a new CTX 1300 passing through town today, black one, S.A.rego plate. Fugly looking piece of scrap iron. Rider looked like some kind of techno-dork.
...  Totally useless for touring in bad weather as no weather protection on lower legs, a useless screen that is hardly higher than the handlebars, and IMO, has about as much appeal as an electric teaspoon.
I wonder how many of these will sit and rust in showrooms before they are withdrawn from sale due to lack of interest?

I reckon that they had too many DN-01`s left over and decided to release it again as the CTX with some changes.

I am also disappointed with Honda's decision the CTX is aimed at the cruiser market in the same way as the F6B, the replacement for the ST is actually the VFR1200 in itself as a solo touring machine not bad but not in my opinion  a worthy successor to the ST particularly if you re carrying a pillion.

If Toyota can be used as an example. They had a top selling car in the Celica  ST (94 - 99), one of their most profitable sports cars ever.

So they decided to change their demographics and target a much younger generation and completely redesign the car. So they released the ZT and it was a complete disaster.

After an eight year hiatus of no Celica being produced they decided to go back to the original concept and we now have the 86, which by my reckoning is a huge success.

So based on that, we should see the new Honda ST around 2027!!
