Just a suggestion, but you might want to black out the edges of the perspex covers and the tabs as well. I found that the perspex transmitted the light back towards me and it was a little distracting.

I'll have a look at doing that but I was planning on removing the covers while the lights were in use. I might get a little creative with the remaining black paint and some tape and see how that works.

I just went for short test ride out towards Orroroo. There's a ford crossing about 8 km of town and I can off park the road sealed road shoulder if needed.

The HID seemed not to be far off in alignment on the way out and I could no doubt stop well within range of the lights. I dipped the lights for an approaching car and it was like......who turned off the lights. A few minutes later we were at the ford and I did the dreaded U-turn, parked the bike on centre stand took a look at the lights.

With Heather holding a bag that was large enough to block the main headlight there didn't seem much to adjust; the LH one aimed a little to the left so I aimed a little more to the centre and left it at that. The RH was ok where it was. I did take a couple of pics but with the bike on centre stand the lights are aimed more to the ground and the ford being lower than the road each side didn't help either.

But there is still a difference between the 2nd and 3rd image as marked by the green arrows plus the white centreline is more noticeable. On the road though I guess at least half a km I can see the road and past that for about a km total I can see the reflectors on the posts. These are Eurobeam and there is more light to the sides compared to the standard hi beam as well.

The pictures don't really do justice to how much more you can see with the HID driving lights. Makes night riding more relaxing as less strain working out what you might be about to hit.

When doing night legs with Lionel we stagger formation and leave driving lights on. Worked great with HIDs, as Lionel has big enough arms to blank out his mirrors. Have not tried this with the Ericas, as may be overkill.

I'm still waiting on the three O rings for the final drive so I rang them (Northern Motorcycles - Port Augusta) and it looks like they've had issues with Honda supplying parts so they should have them by Friday.

While on the phone I priced the cush drive parts that I need and it came to about $120 plus the cost of posting.

My long awaited O rings arrived in the post this morning. The order was placed before the last week of March and the bike shop never got them until the Monday 13th and posted that day. Six working days to post a letter from Port Augusta to Peterborough; hate to think how much longer it'll take when the new delivery schedule starts.

I hope the cush drive parts that I ordered last week (13th) will be day or so quicker than the last order....    might be cheaper if not quicker to go pick them up

Cost me $112 for the cush drive parts after being quoted about $120 when I ordered them. Total on the bag was $163. Naomi who served me reckons the owner gave me a higher than usual discount; I'm not complaining.

Will do them over the weekend or tomorrow if the rain stays away.

On Friday the weather had cleared enough to make a start and perhaps finish changing over the cush drive rubbers. All went well until it came to remove the badly worn screws. My own fault I guess as I never investigated why the screws were wearing as they did and the rubbers were ok until the last tyre change.

Sometime before I removed the wheel for the first time the thrust washer that sits between the drive flange and the wheel centre went missing or it was never installed during production. The O ring that I guess sits in the groove around the wheel centre was never there either or perhaps warn away due to the missing thrust washer.

As it stands now the wheel is down at the tyre dealer to have two of the screws removed. The two shown in the left of the image were worn so bad the Allen key would just slip. Hoping they get it done today so I can get it back on the road for the RTE on the 16th.

A new thrust washer sitting where it should go. Because of the wear factor I bought two to place in there just in case one isn't enough.



The best view I can get of the thickness of the thrust washer. It's about 1mm thick and is just enough to allow the drive flange to clear the screws. It also prevents the drive flange having direct contact with the wheel centre around the bearing.

I got the wheel back this afternoon, removed and replaced the rubbers and the retainer plate and with all new screws. Just as I found the O ring ( it was hiding) and got that on the wheel the heavens opened and it started to rain....drizzle might be a better word. As soon as it clears (soon I hope) I'll be back into it.

Oh yeah!!!! $25 to get the two screws out.

Two brief sprinkles of rain and it's all back together. A little tight getting the drive flange into the inserts. It all looks ok......rear wheel spins ok by hand and even spins up a bit faster with motor running (neutral) with bike on centre stand.

Of the old set only two inserts had lowered through the rubber with only one showing any wear on the wheel side surface. I'll get a photo before I toss them and post later.

That about covers what I had planned but later on in the year a new screen is on the list, a revamped dash shelf with one or maybe two of these Techmounts for the GPS and phone.
