Help! On the road and ......

On the road to the Nat rally.

An hour away from Townsville and the old girl seems to have lost a heap of power.

She has started backfirering when decelerating.

Has lost a lot of Oomph.  Takes a while to get up to speed     

Is it only running on reduced cycls???

What does this mean for my rally?

1100 or 1300???

Try cracking the fuel cap, and see if the problem goes away.

Have you replaced the air filter recently??  Did you get a tank of fuel just before the problem started?? If so, try adding a cup of metho (or several glugs ), may be water in the fuel. Metho will allow the water to mix with the fuel and be burnt.. (called water injection)

You didn't fill up with Diesel did you ????? :fp
Same symptoms and has been known to happen before .......  :Stirpot

I had the same problem with my Kawasaki Gtr1000 I had a few years ago
I got crook fuel from a servo which closed down shortly afterwoods
The bike run like shit then would stop, I would leave it for 5 minutes and would start again. So off I would go only to stop again down the road, I ended up coming home and draining the tank and putting new fuel in and no more problem

But I have been told the metho works, Hope to see you in Toowoomba on Friday  :hatwave

It only works if the problem is water in the fuel.  If it's contaminated in some other way (kerosene has been known to creep in) then your drain and fill is the way to go.  Hard to do on some bikes, especially when you're away from home.

If its kero contamination, the metho at least will help it to burn, unless its more kero that 91 octane.

Actually iso-propyl alcohol is better than meths for absorbing and dispersing water in a fuel tank.  A lot of servos used to carry small bottles of it for that purpose.  But in an emergency, and in the absence of a source of iso-propyl alcohol, meths will work.
