Upgraded to ST1300 (SA)
« on: June 01, 2015, 12:47:04 PM »
Hi all!

After putting around on a Deauville for the last 4 years, I've finally made the step up to an ST1300. The Deauville was a good size for me getting back in the saddle after 20 years of rearing the young ones, but I had the itch from the start for a bigger tourer. Fell in love with the touring layout with a couple of workmates that had a Goldwing 1200 and another with a K100 somewhere back in the 80's. The Deauville's been great to get the feel for touring mainly around SA, but I can't wait to get a decent break for myself and the better half to venture further over the borders on the new steed.

The new one's a bit of a fixer-upper cosmetically, which I'm having a great time slowly restoring with the help of this forum already. First order of business, though, was to get a spare key made as it only came with one. Made the HISS programming harness with the link from this forum - local Honda dealer wanted $60 just to program the key, the parts came to $7 at Jaycar and I learnt something cool! So, there's a programming harness available in Adelaide for anyone needing to borrow.

Here's a photo of the two together. The NT650 is a bit put out with the attention the ST1300's been getting, so they're not talking in this photo...

Hope to catch up with y'all - starting with the SA mob - soon.

Did I mention I like red vehicles? Even my Mitsy 380 has the same color scheme

Welcome from Qld.
You've been a lucky chappy, getting a Candy Glory Red ST13!  From the photo there's not much cosmetically left to do.
You'll find the ST13 will pull your arms a bit longer if you give her the gas.  They also accelerate from a stand-still in third, as I've occasionally found after an absent-minded roll into the traffic lights.

Well, that was a nice warm welcome to come home to!  Thanks everyone  :thumb

I might take up the offer to head to Swan Reach in July, thanks Alans1100 and the other South Australians on here. I'll post in the thread as it get a little closer.

And Biggles, don't look too close just yet. Quite a few of scratches (a few quite deep), faded pannier plastic to respray, other plastic damage to the dash and windscreen... but it's the dream bike for me and it's found itself a loving home.

Looking forward to catching everyone in the forum threads!

It's hard to fix windscreens.  Some suggestions in the forums for recommended replacements under $200 landed.
Also a few OEM screens sitting in people's shed after they bought an after-market jobbie.  Just ask.

Yes, was definitely thinking a replacement. Being only 172cm, I'll probably be looking for one a bit shorter than stock because I seem to be just peeking over the top with the seat on the middle setting. The good thing is there's so much for customising out there for the STs. I'm really going to need to do quite a bit of overtime at work to fix and farkle my new family member.

G'day Blerko & welcome from the Gong (NSW South Coast).

Looks like u found yourself a good RED steed to join the populous herd of Honda reds. That Deauville you have has inherited some of the style characteristics from the ST it seems (eg, tip over wings, tank shape).

The big ride to Perth where OZSTOCers of all flavours will be meeting next March is something 2 consider and in the meantime u have a wiz bang group of members down there in SA.

Hi Blerko. Welcome to the forum. Good colour choice. Red seems to be taking over.

We'll soon have other colour owners painting their bikes so as not to feel inferior or a sad minority.     |-i
