ST Napping
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:49:02 PM »
The Mighty ST had a little nap yesterday.

Sitting at a red light (for around 10 seconds) in Bell Street Coburg, we were minding our own business when WACK from behind, Mighty ST and rider (me) shoot forward and fall to ground.

Everything okay, suffered a bit of whiplash, stiff neck, sore back and a bit shock, ambos and police arrive, get a ride to the ED at Austin Hospital, thanks to Paramedics Tracey (Ooh La La) and Paul, discharged after convincing Dr Gracie (I think I have grand kids her age) and Mrs W that I was okay.

Mighty ST put on flat-top tray and conveyed to Brunswick.

Went to work today, stopped at Brunswick on way back from a meeting, checked bike, looks okay (looks like impact was taken on tow hitch), plastics look okay, but Youi Assessor already booked for Wednesday and he will arrange for bike to be transported to motorcycle repairer and checked properly.

Driver of red Toyota Hatch Back said his foot slipped off the clutch - yeah, whatever.

I've done of stupid things on a bike and come out unscathed, thing time I was being good, and came out unscathed, but got a big scare.   Just like the Mayor of Hiroshima I said, "Wot the flock was that?"

Sorry, no pics - perhaps it didn't happen.

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

Yeah, it happened.  You couldn't make up that story.
Hope there's no problems down the line with the body or the bike.
"Foot slipped off the clutch!"  Not very original, or credible.  I trust the Police didn't believe it either.  Even if it's true, it's negligent driving.

Good to hear that you have survived the crash and that the bike is most likely reparable, thanks for letting us know and good luck with the remainder of your recovery :thumbsup

This is a pet hate of mine and I try to make sure the cars behind have seen me either by slowing down slowly but surely, raising my left hand into the "stopping" signal - and repeatedly applying the brakes to make the brake lights flash.
Once stopped I am more at the mercy of the drivers, but what can you do?
Glad you're okay Mike.     :thumbs

Always stop offset to the vehicle ahead so you don't get concertina'd.
If you're on your own at the lights or stop sign, what you said is about all the defence you have.
Ultimately, if they're comin' to get you, you can step off the bike and prepare to jump clear.

A mate of mine was killed many years ago in Sydney at a set of lights on the Great Western Hway at Prospect. He was just sitting at the lights waiting for the green and got mowed down from behind at high speed. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and there was nothing he could have done to avoid the in-attentive idiot behind the wheel.

Finally, 45 days sans the Mighty ST1300, it was delivered repaired this morning.  Yes it was slow, very slow, I'm not sure who is blame.

Youi was very good to deal with, they processed the claim (well verbally approved) within one day, the ST then had to be transported from Brunswick to Spotswood) to an approved motorcycle repairer, Melbourne Motorcycle Fairings.  They responded very quickly, but advised that the pannier boxes, lower sections were not available in Oz, they would need to be sourced from Japan, ETA would be 8 October.

Got advice yesterday that parts were delivered early, bike was ready, would be delivered yesterday.   Alas, no one home yesterday to take delivery.  Delivery guy from MMF had a neat delivery van, not sure what it was (I think a Renault, front wheel drive anway), and the internal rear section lowered flat to the ground.  Very cool, very handy!!

No charge (excess waived due to driver a fault), also covered damage to motorcycle gear.  I can feel a new helmet, jacket (no, not another OzSTOC jacket) and gloves, albiet only to the value of around $1,000, coming my way soon.

Anyway, back on the road this weekend, might see if I can make it to the Kossie Rally.  Anyone interested in 1,000km ride Saturday and Sunday, a camp at Geehi Hut, a few beers and a lot of BullSh1t?

That was an aftermarket conversion for front drive vans of similar size (mainly Europe I think). I forget the name of the firm but the company I was working for at the time stamped (metal press) the inner/outer door panels for them ...... it was pain in the butt getting a good skin panel (outer) before starting production.

Volkswagen made one of these. It was called the Razorback and was quite popular with delivery people who had to drop of large things like fridges etc.

Mmmmmm .......... can't do both (too many family thingies to do over the next few weekends), anyway this?

With countless, curves, bens, corners and crests .....

Or, that?

Be careful on THE corner on the Calder Highway around 6km out of Nandaly.  "Daytrap Corner" from memory, the ol' timers around these part will know.  I think it was also referred to as "Deathtrap Corner".

Mmmm ..... calling Kevin Murphy.

Anyway, I choose "this", you can join me.
